TV - Angel

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Just finished season 1.

Am I supposed to know who Darla, the chick in the box, is? The wife thinks she was in Buffy at some point.

Yup. Way back in the first season.
Darla is the first vampire to ever be seen in the Buffyverse on the episode "Welcome to the Hellmouth" as well as the first character to speak in the series.

Darla is the first vampire seen on the show, when she breaks into the high school with an ex-student, whom she kills. When Buffy Summers moves to the same town, Darla proposes a scheme to maneuver Angel into killing her. Darla pretends to be a school friend of Buffy's and gets Joyce Summers, Buffy's mother, to invite her into their house. Darla bites Joyce but cleverly sets it up so that Angel initially takes the blame. In a tense three-way confrontation in The Bronze, Angel finally stakes a gun-toting Darla, turning her into dust.

Yep, that's what the wife said. "One of the first ones Buffy ever killed."

There was an episode in Season 3 that I watched last night.... Fred's parents appear for the first time.

Funniest moment of the episode was when Fred's Mom is talking abotu Fred's Dad... "Oh he liked all the Alien movies, except the last one. That one put him to sleep."

Not sure if you know, but Whedon co-wrote the last (at that time) Alien movie. So that was funny.

Also, a few episodes prior to that, "Shmegmar, do that dance of shame." Shmegmar (or whatever that guy's name was) was played by Whedon.

They mentioned Weland-Yutani as a local business in LA.... made me laugh.

Joss was really in an Alien kick after co-writing that Alien 4 script...

Finally finished the series. Hell of a way to go out.... they have guaranteed I will be buying the comic books of "season 6" or whatever they call it.

The show was definitely not a waste of time.

Regarding the Angel season 6 comics:

Stop after volume 4 (of the hardcover collection). It had a good wrap-up to the series, and Ive heard volume 5 just starts a bland new storyline and doesn't hold up. I reserve the right to change my mind if the reviews of volumes 6, 7, etc are stellar.

I know the "Battle of Los Angeles" was a fun way to end the TV series, but the comics really went with it in a great direction that they never could have done on TV. You think it was neat on TV when it rained fire on LA and everybody was like wtf? That times a million. "I'll take the dragon..." ha.

Speaking of the hardcovers, they all have one of those built-in strips of ribbon to use as a bookmark. I like that. Appeals to the snob in me.

Ditto.

This was a solid first season. I liked Doyle, but he was pretty expendable. I liked the crossovers between Angel and Buffy. I like the cop that is sort of like Scully.

I don't like the prophecy crap. I think where Buffy does a decent job of making vampires and demons seem like they naturally into daily life, Angel fails in trying to make everything a "big picture" event. The oracles were the worst part of Season 1.

I do like Wolfman & Hart.
