(The board wouldn't just let me put "P2", I needed more letters.)
A girl gets trapped in an office building on Christmas Eve with a psycho who is trying to "help her".
This movie was really about two people, the psycho and the woman he's tormenting. There are a few other characters, but none are truly important to the movie or have more than 5 minutes screen time.
That can be either a good thing or a bad one. Here, I lean towards bad. I don't think Rachel Nichols (who is pretty cute and is apparently going to be Scarlett in G.I. Joe and is in the new Star Trek) or Wes Bently were properly cast.
Rachel comes off as a bit too strong. Not because of the writing, but because of her own physicality and acting. She didn't strike me as vulnerable or stupid throughout the movie (and she's apparently smart in real life with majors in math and economics...that makes her hotter).
Meanwhile, Wes seems weaker than he should be and not as...I don't know. Something is missing from his performance.
Not that the writing did them any favors. Once again, you need to assume that bad guys in Hollywood are magical as things just couldn't go as well as Wes obviously planned them. Worse still, the writers didn't seem to really make Wes' character jump off the page. Although, I admittedly blame the writers and Wes for that.
P2 is a decent effort and a good rental if you and the wife want to watch a thriller. However, I say that with a catch.
You see, the more I think about it, the more I realize that P2 is a ripoff of Dead Calm. P2 is Dead Calm set in an office building with worse writing and actors.
I highly, highly recommend that if you want to watch a very well acted and written movie where the female lead is EXACTLY where she should be at the beginning and end mentally and physically, and the psycho is off the charts phenomenal, go rent or buy Dead Calm.
If Dead Calm is out, then rent P2.
