Crank

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Jason Statham stars as an assassin who wakes up to find out he's been poisoned and has an hour to live. He decides to use his time wisely by hunting down those who killed him.

Statham is awesome here. He reminds me a lot of Bruce Willis now, but younger. His portrayal of the assassin makes this film work. He's out of control throughout the film, yet completely calm and sane. His delivery style is perfect for both the action and the humor within this film.

The supporting cast around him is a lot weaker with the exception of Eve, played by Amy Smart who goes from "really cute girl" in things like Scrubs to total sex pot here. She's fantastic as Jason's well meaning, but air headed girlfriend.

The rest of the cast, to be honest, isn't great. The villains are pretty over the top and are apparently trying to be the next Pacino in Scarface. Only Jason's doctor friend delivers a decent performance among the rest of the supporting cast, but that's ok because their cheese actually helps in a film that is so fast paced. The worst part about the supporting cast is that they have no back story, although a lot is implied. I have a strong suspicion that had this movie done well enough we would've seen a prequel or two.

This film is about the pacing from start to finish. So don't expect a lot of tender moments between best friends or a speech from Jason to his girlfriend about all their perfect times together. His character does get everything off his chest, but he doesn't have time for dramatic moments.

Overall, this is a good film. I wouldn't call it great because there are a few things I'd change, but I would be happy to have it in my collection. A total guy's film, that your girlfriend/wife might enjoy and even if she doesn't you'll be able to point to "Eve" and ask her "Why aren't we that spontaneous?"

7 1/2 out of 10

Holy crap, that was HER boobie I saw???

And this movie was better than I thought it'd be. Was on Showtime HD so I DVR'd it a couple months ago. FInally watched it.

Also, the doctor friend... surprisingly enough, that is Dwight Yoakum, who also played abusive-boyfriend-Doyle in Slingblade. He's a decent actor for a country music singer. I was surprised to see his name in the credits, I hadn't recognized him as the doctor.
