Did you see the premiere? Not only was the "twist" was really bad writing, but the science...well, I'm willing to let a lot slide, but the dream connection really pulled me out of the show.
If anyone is wondering what Fringe is about, think The X-Files except all crazy science instead of aliens and UFOs.

The first few episodes and the last few episodes of the first few seasons of the X-Files were must watch TV. It was all about government conspiracies and shadow agencies. Very good stuff. I will never forget the "X" in masking tape Mulder put on the window when he was in that seedy hotel, which led to "X" showing up in the middle of the night.
I still think "The Cigarette Smoking Man" (his official name) was one of the best characters ever on TV. Again, until they ruined him towards the end of the series.
Everything in the middle and the later years wasn't even remotely as good.
The overall plot of Fringe (spoilers for the pilot episode) is that the U.S. Government once funded a scientist to explore all the fringe sciences like dreams, invisibility, time travel, other dimensions, chemical and biological weapons, etc. After a nasty chemical attack on a plane, a FBI agent is forced to enlist the help of said scientist who has spent the last 17 years in the nut house. To break through to him, the FBI also enlists his son whose IQ is off the charts, poorly played so far by Joshua Jackson. Meanwhile, someone has access to the scientist's old work and they're using it for evil. So far, all signs point to a corporation being behind it all. A shadow government agency is also involved, but they are the good guys.

That sounds horrible. Especially the part about Joshua Jackson having an IQ.Leisher wrote:The overall plot of Fringe (spoilers for the pilot episode) is that the U.S. Started watching it on Netflix. About 5 episodes in.
I know it is too soon to ask this 5 episodes in, but are all these separate threads they are introducing and not explaining going to come together by the end of season 1? Not sure if I have the patience to wait 5 seasons before I start seeing resolutions.

For some reason I stuck with the show, and it became enjoyable, but still not "awesome" TV.
However, I still think the guy who plays the nutty scientist and Peter's dad is phenomenal. He deserves every acting award possible for his work here.
Everyone else is decent.
As for your question Gordo, yes and no.
I don't remember when you find out what's at the core of the show, but I know you DO find out. This isn't Lost where the show has one giant riddle and at the end its all bullshit. They're going to tell you what's going on, but there's still going to be unresolved questions and an overall conflict that will eventually need to be resolved.
I have yet to watch the final season, but one of the bonuses of the show is that there is a beginning and a legit ending.
