Looks good.
I remember the issue of collateral damage being brought up in comics. From insurance companies refusing to cover certain peeps to professional cleanup crews, etc. It's an interesting concept where you have superpowered being who can do major damage to a city's infrastructure.

It was an OK movie. It has the vibe of... too many cooks trying to make different movies.... is it a superhero comedy? Is it a serious drama? Not sure if that was the case, but it sort of felt that way.
Also, I saw a TV commercial yesterday that gave me 90% of the plot points, so thanks for that, marketers. Fuck you.

Hancock sucked.
I primarily blame the marketing folks as the movie that is advertised is completely different from the movie you see.
However, as Gordon points out, the movie has no idea if it's a comedy or a drama. That's a product of poor writing and direction.
Will Smith is a superhero who is an asshole because he's lonely. He's the only one of his kind, which makes his vagina ache.
Along comes Jason Bateman as a hippie PR guy who wants to save the world. He vows to help Will improve his public image. That's when Will starts to discover things about himself.
There are a couple of minor chuckles, but nothing memorable. Actually, there is one memorable joke, but it was stolen from Kevin Smith, specifically from Mallrats.
The main plot line was slow and predictable. You knew what was going on the second certain players were introduced. I don't mean "Oh there's the baddie", but "Oh, here's who all the players are and here's how this movie is going to end." Seriously.
All the actors do a great job, they just had nothing to work with at all.
Oh, in context, even the whale lost its humor.
3 out of 10. (All three points are for the actors.)
And not to start a different debate, but Fight Club is not that good. Ebert's review might play out like an old guy pissing on the youth, but he's not too far off the mark. Fight Club was full of holes within its own story, and while it was well acted, the entire premise of the movie was to speak to every man's violent side. The side that comes out once he drinks a few beers and thinks he's the baddest man alive. It was extremely juvenile, but that was both the beauty of it and its flaw.

Eh, I mainly liked Fight Club for the plot twist, it was pretty well done. Even if it doesn't completely hold together on a second viewing.

Twists like that annoy me because they have no logic and make no sense.
It's like Scream 2: The killer is this person and this person who hasn't been introduced into the film until just this moment.
In Friday the 13th it worked because the legend was established from the first moment on. Their was a motive behind the murders and you knew it had to do with Jason, you just didn't know the "who" yet. A logical guess based on what you knew at that point would have been possible.

I really like Hancock. Very good movie.
The thing is it is not a comedy at all. They really fucked up the marketing on it. Badly. There are a few potentially humorous moments, but they aren't really funny so much as underlining how messed up Hancock is.
