Rights to Superman at stake in trial.
This is huge. Reading some of those articles, speculation is that the Spiegals already have a home for him. Taking Superman out of the DC Universe and moving him elsewhere could be devastating for DC. Their whole universe is geared around Superman's existence.
The only "home" other than DC I could imagine Superman going to would be Marvel unless the Spiegal family is entertaining thoughts of a new line or maybe a ridiculous offer from someone like Image. However, Supes doesn't fit the Image or Dark Horse mold.
What would DC do with all the Superman related characters? Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Bizarro, Superboy, Supergirl, Power Girl, Parasite, Brainiac, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, etc.
I suppose they could move Captain Marvel to center stage since he's pretty much the same.
Potential spoilers below:
In related news, one of the rumors running about DC right now is that they're going to kill all their major characters and replace them with their junior versions in a upcoming event that will crossover with every book in the company.
For those who don't know, DC has always had younger versions of their major players (not to mention 51 alternate versions...ask if you're curious). Examples:
-Superman/Superboy
-Batman/Nighthawk (whatever the fuck Grayson is now)/Robin (all three of 'em)
-Wonder Woman/Wonder Girl
-Green Arrow/Red Arrow
-etc.
Maybe they're expecting defeat in the lawsuit, so they're going to kill off Supes first?

The daughter of one of the two dudes, can't remember which, will not let this go until she dies. Even then, I'm sure some other family member will make it their personal crusade.
