I hate to admit this, but I think Val Kilmer is a little underrated as an actor.

Real Genius was one of the better 80s/90s movies, but for some reason it's not the huge hit that others became.
As for Val, he's definitely underrated. One of his faults that has kept him from becoming a bigger star is that he's apparently a real asshole to work with on set. They say he's a perfectionist.
