MI:3

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Tom Cruise in the third Mission Impossible movie.

The marketing claims it's the best one of the trilogy. It's not.

No, the first one was the best. This movie isn't horrible, but it's a spy movie that's essentially a love story, and it just doesn't work.

Tom is Ethan Hunt yet again, but this time he's retired and is in the role of an instructor. That is until his star pupil turns up missing. He agrees to help find her despite his upcoming marriage and things go wrong.

There's a lot of hokey crap here and the stretching of reality both in stunts and story do more to hurt the franchise than to help this film.

Ethan Hunt was an interesting character in the first film because he was vulnerable. He wasn't bullet proof, he could get his ass kicked, he could be outsmarted, etc. Here, he's superman and it's a bit ridiculous.

At no point do you believe the character won't win, with the exception of the first 3 fantastic minutes, and it's a shame. This franchise wasn't horrible, but this film certainly sends it in that direction.

The final 10 minutes are especially difficult to watch if you have an IQ above 80.

Decent acting, Ving and Lawrence, some good action and stunts, and a franchise that isn't horrible aren't enough to offset the terrible writing.

4 out of 10.

P.S. If you can't predict most of this film, then it must be the first film you've ever seen.

I was GIVEN this movie on DVD by a person who bought it used and then hated it.

I thought the opening 3 minutes ended up... sucky. Can't say more without spoilering it, but I don't like how it ended up.
