Hostel II

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Hostel II starts off by wrapping up a few loose ends from the original and then heads into its very unique plot at a rabbit's pace.

Just kidding.

Yes, it does tie up lose ends, but then it's Hostel all over again. There is nothing new here outside of the victims and an attempt to set up a series of sequels.

Another problem is that the characters aren't developed so you don't feel bad for them if they die. In fact, there is no depth to anything. The film just does not flow well and nothing from characters to settings to scenes work well together.

The looks of everything is just really gritty and dark. It's actually hard to tell who is who, not that you'll care.

On top of that, the killing is really boring. There is a scene where the first of our American tourists is killed that I guess was supposed to be really horrific, but it came off as cheesy and pointless. I found myself wondering if the killer was one of the "main players" and if so, why and how were they doing what they were doing.

Overall, there is nothing new here at all. I suppose if you loved Hostel, this one is worth a viewing. Same if you're a huge horror fan, otherwise skip it.

3 out of 10.
