The story takes place in the time frame between Episodes 1 & 2, I believe. Annikin is 14... but this isn't really an Obi Wan/Annikin story.
It's the story of a long-range colonization ship created by a strong-willed Jedi to explore and possibly colonize the next galaxy over. But before they get through the "Unknown Regions" of their own galaxy, the encounter a civilization known as the Chiss, and meet a young Chiss commander....
A military genius named Thrawn who analyzes potential enemies by studying the art their race produces.
This is generally a Thrawn book with a few different storylines that all come together near the end. I didn't even know until recently that Zahn had written more Thrawn books since the "Heir to the Empire" books in the early 90's, which introduced Grand Admiral Thrawn to the Star Wars universe, and generally considered to be the best SW books ever written. Ask any SW geek which "Expanded Universe" books he'd like to see made into movies, and Zahn almost always comes at the top of the list. Considering Thrawn appears in Star Wars Galaxies, I think that pretty much makes him the only non-Lucas character that gets to be canon.
Outbound Flight is a great story about Thrawn's early history. Not incredibly great literature, but one of the few good Star Wars stories out there.
Looks like there are 2 more Thrawn books that I'll also be checking out.
Book - Zahn - Outbound Flight - A Star Wars Book... but it's Zahn.
If you liked the other Zahn books you will probably enjoy this one but not as much. I wasn't disappointed that I read it but I'm not a big Zahn fan either.
I just wish if the story really doesn't revolve around any of the main characters that they would just leave them out. Obi wan/Anakin really didn't add all that much and it seemed like they were there so that there is a connection to the main storyline.
I just read the Darth Bane book written by the guy who wrote KOTOR. Not as good as KOTOR but it was fun.

Star Wars Zahn books, Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command,Visions of the Future, Survivors Quest, Outbound Flight, Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future All are pretty good. There is a new one due out Allegiance. I think it has to do with Thrawn's 501st Stormtrooper
Wadda mean? Other people can read this?!
