Well, the plot is more than a little formulaic. It's of the "we couldn't get into X so we made our own and it's great but we get caught by The Man" genre so especially popular in the 80s. And like all movies in this genre you'll need to bring a pretty big dose of incredulity with you to the show.
Nonetheless, this movie rocks. The fact that it's got Lewis Black as a major character should be enough for you. If you need more, let me just say that this is the school I would have loved to attend. I want to be a S.H.I.T.head. It wouldn't surprise me if somewhere someone really tries to do this, although in real life they probably wouldn't be able to pull it off at all and will go to jail for a very long time.
