Iran
Re: Iran
You son of a bitch. You beat me to it. I had that saved to post.

Re: Iran
uh.Vice President Vance on Monday said Iran could have access to a $300 billion reconstruction fund under its peace agreement with the U.S. if Tehran upholds its obligations outlined in the deal.
It's not me, it's someone else.

Doesn't matter who is in office, they never learn.

Re: Iran
You posted about something that shouldn't be happening (in my opinion). Leisher followed up with all the idiots are idiots. You responded with "not Obama". So I responded sarcastically about how all Ds are perfect and Rs are stupid. (Which kind of follows your overall posting theme!)
Re: Iran
I guess I'll wait to see the full deal, if it's even signed.
But uh... it appears the largest unforced error by a President in American Geopolitical history.
Achieved absolutely nothing.
I guess we lost more soldiers in Vietnam/Afghanistan but we never paid them 100s of Billions in war reparations.
We will have significantly strengthened Iran after this. Everyone in the middle east will be scared. The Petro dollar is fucked - Iran has proved they have complete control of the Straight. Geopolitical nightmare.
And again... we didn't need to do ANY of this.

After all, this was just Vietnam all over again except without ground troops.
It did achieve three things:
1. A very public rebuke of Israel's leader by an American president, which had never happened.
2. It showed us how deep that ideology is in Iran. It didn't matter how many leaders we killed. New ones would pop right up with the same objectives.
3. Weapons manufacturers made bank.
Jokes aside, #2 should/could have made the whole thing worthwhile IF leaders in the West had any sort of awareness and accountability. But they don't, so keep importing millions of people from this same ideology, let them vote and hold office. Ignore that they all openly talk about taking over and bringing their culture to your country. I'm sure it'll end well.

Re: Iran
We didn't have to pay war reparations after Vietnam though? Losing Vietnam didn't upset the entire system for modern petroleum commerce?
I think. It was a while ago - so maybe I'm wrong.
At least in Vietnam they took the weapons we left behind and immediately used them on China. That was a silver lining.

Re: Iran
None of your points are invalid as far as I remember.
However, one thing you're overlooking about Nam is the American service members lost and the ones who dealt with scars forever. Not to mention their families. A far, far larger price paid than what happened in Iran. All lost for nothing and ultimately sold out by politicians who were too scared to win a war.
Trump was the same way with Iran. He was so terrified of getting into another Vietnam and "tarnishing his legacy" that he ultimately created another Vietnam, just without the ground forces, and thus, massive American casualties.
Trump thinks he's saved face, but in reality he looks like the loser to everyone.
Mark my words, you will read articles and/or books in the future about how much he hindered the military during this action.

Re: Iran
True, I’d take the minimal casualties surrender over the other option that was floated, digging in, invading the entire Iranian coast, and having to see American soldiers on suicide drone footage feeds on the regular like we see in Ukr/Ru.
Talking to Uber drivers In Texas how they feel about it. The best answer I got was that we had to stop Iran getting a nuke and nuking Israel.
Which, ok, but I don’t think the deal that was signed addresses this at all. I’m pretty “let Israel figure their own shit out” at this point, but it would at least be something!
How can the Republican Party seriously recover for this before the next presidential election? Much less midterms. The cult of personality was these hard ass war fighters - gave them one modern war and we had to completely capitulate. Not a single goal reached. Lost treasure, lives and equipment.
I’m almost hopeful that the spin catches up because, damn. This sucks. There’s just no silver lining here. I can’t even come with a thing.

Re: Iran
Trump: Iran has all the leverage."I didn't want to see economic catastrophe. If you kept this going, that could have happened," Trump told reporters in the lakeside resort of Evian-les-Bains.
The Republican president said he did not want to be like Herbert Hoover, who was U.S. president in October 1929 when the stock market crashed, triggering what became known as the Great Depression.
"All I know is every time we talked about the possibility of peace, the stock market shot up like a rocket ship," Trump said. "Every time we said something negative, like, guess what, we're not going to be able to settle, it would go down very big."
...
Trump's comments contrasted with earlier remarks in which he said he expected higher oil prices, loved inflation and was not motivated "not even a little bit" to strike a deal because of Americans’ financial situation.
...
"It could have caused an international depression," Trump said.

Re: Iran
Every time I come to this thread I keep expecting to see fighting is back on.
And yeah, Iran had all the leverage because Trump was afraid to win. He using excuses now after two months of being afraid to actually end things.
He thought he could cut the head off the snake and that'd be it. He wasn't expecting more heads. He didn't prepare, got talked into it, and now is trying to pretend it all went according to plan.
