A thought experiment:
We're going to do a national boycott of McDonald's until they match EU standards for food ingredients. Sign the petition and you're entered into a drawing. 10 winners will be chosen and then will be vetted. Your bank records and cell phone tracking info will be checked to ensure you abided by the boycott. 50 famous people, 25 gals and 25 guys, agreed to have a private dinner with these winners. The winners get to choose who from the list of celebs.
Does this become a national success?
Do the celebs balk at participating because they don't understand the cause or because they're afraid it could affect their ability to get work?
What if Elon backed the boycott with a $1M prize for 10 winners? Would that work better?
Pretending you ate at McDonald's, what would get you to participate?

I do eat at McDonalds, but not often. Mostly when a kid wants McDonalds, and I'm just like "Sure, whatever"
I would need to know what the changes should/would result in. But most people would just want the money.
It's not me, it's someone else.

I eat McD's maybe twice a year.... and regret it every time.
I don't know, I'd sign up. But as soon as I have to jump through that first hoop to be vetted, I'd be out, assuming I was being scammed. "Give us your bank account and credit card info so we can make sure." Uh huh.

Fair. What if instead of that, the McD sales had to hit a certain level? Like, they do $5B in sales per quarter and for this protest to "pay out winners", McD's sales have to drop to $2.5B in a quarter.GORDON wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 10:19 am I don't know, I'd sign up. Now there's incentive to participate and even if you didn't, the protest worked.
I genuinely believe we do need a cleanup of the FDA and the food industry overall.TheCatt wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 10:05 am I would need to know what the changes should/would result in.

Which one?
Well, That's what RFK Jr has promised. A few of his ideas are not terrible.Leisher wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:59 am I genuinely believe we do need a cleanup of the FDA and the food industry overall.

You get to pick!!
Agreed. I just hope the changes are made cautiously. Don't go from one extreme to the other, and have a plan in place to get there, not just disassemble.TheCatt wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 12:08 pm Well, That's what RFK Jr has promised. A few of his ideas are not terrible.

Yeah, unfortunately, I agree it's unlikely to be done right.
