X-Files 2

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I've always loved the first several seasons of that show.

Ditto. The final couple of seasons are a perfect example of how Hollywood egos destroy good things. I'd bet David D. wishes he hadn't walked away from the series now.

I'm looking forward to this film, but I fear a lot of the movie going public will say "What's an X-File?"

Yeah, he should've realized that he was then & will forever be Fox Mulder. Much in the same way Ed O'Neill will always be Al Bundy. They won't get steady work ever again unless they reprise their respective roles.

Personally, I loved him in Evolution.

"Ooo... you're so brave! YOU'RE. SO. BRAVE!"
"Man, that thing was like really long and you took it like a MAN!"

Evolution felt like a huge letdown to me. Maybe I expected too much of Ivan Reitman, but the bullshit science they come up w\ to take down the last critter was just abhorrent. They may as well've'd a little elf, pixie, Ewok, or Jar-Jar tell them.

This is one of those "you can accept the super-evolving critters from outter space, but not the head-and-shoulders solution?" moments.

It's the banter between characters that I love.

Goddamnit, I can envision some ultra-mega-fast evolving lifeform a helluva lot more readily than I can believe that chemical vulnerabilities translate that well on the periodic table. I mean, fucking seriously, they could've used almost any other explanation. One has a booze-induced vision, some ancient Indian medicine man gives them some fucking tomahawk that kills them, a genius scientist that has a breakthru*, fucking Lassie shows up & tells them, I don't care.

* : genius scientific breakthrus involve more than dragging your finger along a few entries on a standard chemical chart blindly.

At least make an attempt to lie to me. I know "Hackers" is an idealized version of some underground geek utopia that doesn't exist, but at least I can imagine cool apps that could make a DOS attack like that. I can imagine nothing cool between arsenic:carbon::???:silicon, then magically guessing that x=fucking selenium. Seriously, gimme a fucking Muppet before shoving that sorta crap to tie things up.

Now... you DO realize there is a reason that elements fall within those specific rows and columns of the Periodic Table, right? There is actually some half-ass logic in their solution. There would indeed be a proportional correlation between Arsenic and Selenium, outter electron/number of shell-wise.

This is a real geek conversation, and I didn't really intend to argue about it that much. But there is a correlation...2 spaces down and one over = 2 more electrons and one more shell (or whatever the spacing was) for each element they were comparing.

But I don't really care. I'd have to be pretty fucking needy to require everybody like the same things I do.

There's a period of years where I pretty much hated every movie I saw. I saw this flick during that time. Usually I'm just unnecessarily hard on them. It's like some weird subliminal response to any flick I saw during the time.

Ha, let us know when that period ends. ;)

Was looking at how it is doing...

32% of Rotten Tomatoes.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/x_files_2/

Consensus: The chemistry between leads David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson do live up to The X-Files' televised legacy, but the roving plot and droning routines make it hard to identify just what we're meant to believe in.

I don't always agree with their ratings, though. I thought Hancock was much better than the 38% it got.
