Joker: Folie A Deux (2024)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

It's a musical.

I didn't care for the first one.

As weird as they get, I like my superhero movies less edgy.

Not getting good reviews at all.

I'm hearing a consistent theme: Acting is great, singing is fine despite not fitting, looks great, but the story is ass and it's boring.

Also, here's the spoiler that everyone will be talking about coming out of this movie. It's huge (not kidding) and I had zero interest in this movie from essentially the start, but this spoiler I need to see:
Heath Ledger's Joker murders this Joker at the end.

Was not a fan of the first. Tired of assholes retelling good stories either to give their own interpretation which sucks, or to cash in. Or both. This version sucks. Also not a fan of the new Batman. If I want a joyless movie I'll watch..... I don't know. Something joyless.

SO not watching this one and I read the spoiler and GOOD.

I generally agree, but only when it's non-fans who don't know or understand the source material. (See: Rian Johnson and Star Wars) I'm willing to see a different vision from an actual fan (See: Zack Snyder and the DCU). And I'll even allow non-fans if they bury themselves in the source material (See: Hugh Jackman and Wolverine).

Being that the original Joker movie was openly discussed as an "Elseworlds" story (Elseworlds = non-canon), it gave them more leeway with me. Thus, I enjoyed it. Phoenix is an amazing actor and they made Joker work. But it was never "the" Joker. His name and origin was completely different.

I learned today that this movie got an 11 minute standing ovation at the Venice film festival.

Meanwhile, on RT, the critics score is 33% and the audience score is 31%.

Has Hollywood ever been more disconnected from their audience?
