Good story.
Aliens invade the earth...
I can't really say much without giving spoilers besides the authors did a good job of introducing aliens with really alien ways of thinking. I'm sure they didn't invent the concept, but they did a good job with it.
A light read, and fun.

These guys also wrote Lucifer's Hammer , which is pretty much the same premise but without the aliens.

Niven and Pournell do really good work together.
Lucifer's Hammer is my favorite. For some reason I still think of that book whenever I look at railroad tracks in the rain.
