I saw some of that movie for the first time over the weekend, with my wife.
I had a fishing trip planned that day too, that I ended up canceling because we didn't have enough time. She accused me of canceling it because I didn't want her to assume that my brother-in-law and I were going after trouser trout.
The Joker is a tough role even without bringing in baggage.
Heath Ledger is going to have to put on the performance of his life to avoid people hating him because of this role.
There's the whole gay cowboy thing, Nicholson's Joker, and the years of comic history.
Good luck to him.
I like that poster. The Joker looks "right" for a homicidal maniac.

The writer and director were able to take the scarecrow, one of the gayest comic villains ever and make him cool so I have faith they can get something good out of ledger.

You know, I was thinking. A gay joker sort of fits in with the 60's series. That guy had to be light in the loafers. So then we have an over the top way of dispatching Batman involving an oversized dildo (a la the Flesh Gordon clip, damn you Paul ) or some such shit.
The studio would get too much flak for making a bad guy gay, as it would obviously mean that Hollywood hates gays and is trying to brainwash people into thinking they're all evil.
I really hate how Hollywood thinks more villains equals a better film. Maybe they think it hasn't worked yet, so it's due...

I guess I'll wait and see how he's used before I bash Hollywood.
Although, I will say this: I honestly think they stuff movies with tons of characters because they simply have no idea how to write a character for more than a few minutes. Character development is a concept completely foreign to Hollywood writers.
