WKRP

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I totally bought season 1 at Target, yesterday.

Last I heard (years ago) they couldn't release it because the RIAA wanted too much money for all the music that was in the show. I hope all of the music wasn't edited out.

The RIAA was going to block this? Seriously?

Ouch. Bad news, G. Wikipedia says...
However, as was done with many other television series, the DVD release of WKRP in Cincinnati - Season One has much of the music replaced by generic substitutes. In addition, some scenes have been cut or truncated and voice overs used to avoid using unlicensed musical content.

Yeah, suspected that... why I'd never heard of the DVD release until I saw it in the store.

If I did that the folks at Target's customer service counter would say, "Sir, you're saying you saw this DVD set already riddles with holes from shotgun buckshot, and bought it anyway?"

Target would not take it back opened, even for store credit. They actually told my wife it was against federal copyright law to accept DVD returns that were out of the shrink wrap. Don't know if that was an outright lie, or just ignorance passed down as company policy.

I always feel a little guilty when I make impulse purchases at Target... I feel like I should forgo the instant gratification, and shop on amazon for cheaper. Thanks, Target, for teaching me that lesson. On amazon I would have seen the reviews before I purchased.

I call bullshit. Then again, the MPAA has deep-ass pockets.

It's bullshit.

At least it better be.

But fuck... if they think I opened it and copied it and tried to return it, I could have just DL'd it in less time, if that was my wish.

I'd take it back and make a scene if it were me. But I'm a dick.

If there's one thing I've learned from working shit jobs, it's that the dudes that get stuck behind customer service just want to get shit outta the way as quickly as possible. They have little loyalty to their bosses if they can get away w\ shit. Unless you get the employee o' the month or something. Then it all depends how badly you want redress.

I think you should fight this one Gordo.

Your whole argument should be "I didn't know it wouldn't have the original music." That was one of the big selling points of the show.

It's like buying a "Dallas" DVD only to find that all the scenes with JR were cut.

In other words, you did not get what was advertised on the cover of the product.

Tell Target their job is to make you happy and if they want to recoup their losses they can do so with the distributor.

So here's the complete series for sale!

http://www.amazon.com/WKRP-In....ies+dvd

With... "most" of the original music.........

Research tells me 70% of the original music....

And fucking Pink Floyd wouldn't allow them to use the song with the scene, "Do I hear dogs?", those fuckers....

So I dunno.

Do I go to my grave with "He died waiting for a 100% restored WKRP box set" on my gravestone?

Yes, because it won't be as good as you remember.
