The Saw series

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

The Saw series

Post by GORDON »

Been watching the movies with my kid, he's 11 now and ready for the torture porn. Hey, it's October.

I only watched up through the third movie before now, I had a little kid when they were coming out and your priorities get distracted, and by the time I missed #4 and 5, never bothered catching up... until now.

So we watched the 3rd movie last night, and so far each one starts where the last one ended, for the most part. It's been a continuous story, with some "and here is what was happening behind the scenes so now it changes what you thought was going on" from movie to movie.... but so far it is all making sense.

Rewatching the 3rd one with the kid last night, my mind got to wandering about what John, the Jigsaw mastermind, was doing. I'm not saying he was right to put people into those self-mutilation devices and giving them difficult tasks to illustrate to themselves how much they value their lives.... but I do see what he was trying to do.

It's not his fucking job to straighten those people out, and his actions caused a massive trail of bodies and not many survivors, but it is interesting that so far everyone who has died has done so because they were scared, or mentally weak, or just simply could not follow directions. Up through #3, this has been a very well-thought-out story.

Not sure how they will continue the story through 4 more movies now that Jigsaw is dead, but I guess we'll see.

I actually have a vague memory of seeing another Saw(?) movie that was about John's past and a small son he lost, which was the origin of the creepy doll and tricycle, but I am not sure. Maybe I saw the 4th one and forgot.

You need to see them all as even the last harkens back to the first.

I watched those 5 when they were on HBOGo.

I honestly don't know if I ever knew about the existence of the other two. I'll dig them up this month though.

They're bad. Like horribly bad. On the other hand, all seven movies demonstrate more continuity and connectivity than Star Wars I-VI.

I'll give Malcolm credit, he made this joke before TLJ.

If Rian Johnson made the next Saw movie he'd reveal that Jigsaw was never actually the killer, but some sort of goofed up mentor for the real killer who is some nobody.
