Life of the Party (2018)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Life of the Party (2018)

Post by Leisher »

Yay my friend's HBOGo Account!

Melissa McCarthy and Matt Walsh (that guy who looks like a thinner Louis C.K.) drop their kid off for her senior year of college and then promptly break up. Melissa decides to enroll in the same school and finish her senior year as well.

McCarthy's pratfall humor is really the driving force here combined with her "fish out of water" story.

There's a lot of good female empowerment messages, which seems to be what the industry is based on these days, but unlike in other movies this doesn't come at the expense of ALL men, just her ex. Although, there is a really good moment late in the film when she goes too far and becomes the bad guy because of her actions, and he's the victim. A very rare thing to see these days and very welcome.

There are a couple of genuine laughs, but they're few and far between. There's a scene in a restaurant that is pretty funny on a lot of levels and is the highlight of the movie, but it's all context, so you have to watch the rest of the movie to get it.

It's very cute and nice, but it's not good. Although, it's not terrible either. Pretty sure this film could be aired on CBS tomorrow with no editing.
