X-Men 3: The Last Stand - Read post for spoiler rating
*Minor spoilers for people with knowledge of the comics. People who only know the X-Men from the movies shouldn't pick up on anything here.*
If you were paying attention during X-Men 2, then you know that the core focus of X3 is on the Dark Phoenix saga from the comics. Keep in mind though that this is the Hollywood version.
Readers of the comics will need to pretend that this is an alternate universe or they will find plenty to bitch about while those who have just seen the first two X films should really enjoy this movie.
Lots of new characters, lots of action, but the storyline is very, very Hollywood. People who have never picked up an actual comic in the last 20 years can laugh at this (due to their ignorance of comics, which isn't meant as an insult), but the writing doesn't hold a candle to the actual comics.
Still, it is an entertaining film and it is fun to see characters we grew up reading about come to life on the big screen.
If you liked the first two, you'll like this one.
8 out of 10.

I liked it. I've even gotten to the point where changes don't bother me so much as long as they are respectful of the characters, and I think these movies have been.
They payed homage to the comics in a few scenes in this flick.

I had a problem with Phoenix's powers. (Discussed in the spoilers thread.)
P.S. Stay until the credits are over.
P.S.S. They said this would be the last X-Men film. $103 million the first weekend and 4th best opening ever say that maybe they'll rethink that, especially since most of the major actors loved the series.

Well, he only got the film because Singer got his dream film in Superman.
Singer could come back to do 4 or even the Wolvie solo film.

I know why they'd to use Ratner. But his ass'd best NOT be back to have anything to do w\ the franchise ev4r again.Well, he only got the film because Singer got his dream film in Superman.

I liked the movie a lot more than I thought I would. I was afraid the director would make a "Rush Hour" joke out of everything.
If I wanted to catch up on the official comic x-men universe, is this a good place to start?

Not really, looks like they revamped the xmen again with that book, have not read it though. I'll try to look up where would be a good place to start when I have more time.If I wanted to catch up on the official comic x-men universe, is this a good place to start?

It depends on where you want to catch up from.
Go to Borders or Barnes & Noble or whatever bookstore you have in your area. Buy a coffee, tea, whatever. Head to the graphic novel section. Sit down and read.
Start with The X-Men Encycopedia Version 3. It is a bunch of quick bits about characters and stories related to the X-Men.
After that...wait just start there. I just got back from the lake and have to go mow the lawn, but when I get back in and sit down tonight, I'll recommend a bunch of the better graphic novels I've been reading to catch up myself.

That's tricky...
The films actually covered stuff from all the eras of the X-Men.
Let me start a new thread on graphic novels and it should give you some good ideas.
P.S. It's not X-Men Excyclopedia, but The Ultimate Guide.

True, Marvel even links to it.
You'll get spoilers galore there though, so be careful.
