The Great Wall

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

The Great Wall

Matt Damon is a thief from somewhere...he doesn't sound like himself, but I can't place it...and he ends up at the Great Wall. Did you know it was built to keep out monsters and save humanity? Neither did anyone else.

The Viper joins him, but he's more for comedy I guess?

The Chinese army is very cool and colorful, but the story doesn't make a lot of sense.

Cool for some dumb action, but otherwise it's pretty bad.

My understanding is that it was a film made for the Chinese by a Chinese company so that's why the story was wonky. If I were to guess on Matt's voice, I'd bet it went through the usual overdub process of any movie coming out of China. They got a film that was all in Chinese and overdubbed all the voices, even though somewhere was original footage with his lines in his own voice and in English.

Edit: Okay, reading on Wiki that this was a joint venture between the Chinese and US companies. Wiki contradicts itself a lot and that can be kind of annoying. Article in one place said that it made $170 million in China which was considered a disappointment, and elsewhere it said doing that amount was doing well in China. It seems like cinema might start catering to the Chinese market if these numbers are correct, which I think would be bad for movies (as far as good story telling).

The Chinese market thing is a topic for a different thread, but yes, we should see more movies targeted for them since they have the population numbers.

However, their politics still make them less appealing. The U.S. is still the biggest market and combined with "like minded" countries more so.

I agree that their politics make them less appealing, but their politics already impact our films. My understanding is that films where the government is the villain aren't played in China. So Captain America: The Winter Soldier had to make it painfully clear that the only reason the government was doing what they were doing was because every single person that was in agreement with them were Hyrda agents. It's kind of like the comic codes from the 50's.
