Happy Death Day (2017)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

A Groundhog Day horror. I'm in.

Sequel on the way.

I hope this time they make it for grown ups.

Happy Death Day

Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) is a hot stuck up sorority girl with unresolved emotional issues. She's a cunt to everyone and routinely loses herself via booze. That's when someone decides to murder her and when she starts living the same nightmare that Bill Murray lived in Groundhog's Day. Now she needs to solve her own murders AND has a chance to change her life's direction. The catch? It's PG-13 and the damage being done adds up meaning she can only do this X number of times.

The PG-13 rating definitely held it back from reaching its full potential.

However, that bit about the damage actually being done and building up is just nonsense. If you reset everything, then everything gets reset. C'mon, this is just shitty writing. I'm betting this part was thrown in to extend the movie's length. Once it's addressed, it never gets discussed again. Oh, and hey, a sequel is coming with the same peeps, so...

Those two bits of bullshit aside, the movie was actually not bad. No, the kills don't get crazy creative and the film seems desperate for a death montage, but the "who done it" aspect is intriguing and well done. This is how you fucking build suspense and "trick" an audience without not showing your hand. All the cards are on the table from the start. No Scream 2 killer reveals here.

The why never gets explained, and there's two discussions about the goings on in the movie that got the wrong response. I mean, if someone is talking to you about having died multiple times and they're dead fucking serious... Still, the writing is just tight enough to keep me in the story and entertained.

I enjoyed it.
