I almost added "gay people" in my example. Black people is better though considering their "boycott the Oscars" movement had folks crunching the numbers and revealing they're way over-represented in movies compared to their percentage of the population. Asians and Hispanics are the ones who should be complaining about representation in movies.

More than 10% of the people I know are gay (Not that there's anything wrong with that). I neither live nor work near a particularly "gay" area nor do I purposefully seek out gay friends.

I think it's entirely possible the percentage could be higher than 10% just because it's still taboo for many people in small communities or bigoted families to come out of the closet. Only time will tell.

How many people do you know?

Off the top of my head, I know 9 gay people (not counting Cakedaddy) out of the hundreds (thousands?) of people I know. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting someone...

We're talking about family, friends, co-workers, parents of kids I've coached in multiple sports, etc.

So in my experience, it's closer to the 1% statistic.

Let's say it was higher than 10%. At what point would the percentage be high enough to affect reproduction rates noticeably?

Noticeably? Any amount. 1% gay should have a 1% effect while 10% would have a 10% effect, in theory. But it doesn't mean anything, really, because where do you get 0% baseline data? There's no such thing as a no-gays country, there's just one's where gays are required to keep quiet or be killed.

The real percent is somewhere around 2-3%, as far as I can tell/know.

Yes. Especially if it's a household census. There are many gay people that can not or will not identify to their families and they wouldn't be reported. And then there's the people trying to pray their gay away, they won't self-report either.

No, it doesn't. But data is only as good as the science behind it. I'm saying this is not finished and needs more study.

I've got none either. But a lack of good data is no reason to conclude that the available bad data is correct.

At no point have I ever stated that I'm certain about any percentage. I've registered a gut feeling that it's higher. I've pointed out the weaknesses in the limited data available. That's it. I have no conclusions for you other than I don't know and neither does anyone else. Time will tell.

Skrein said in a statement posted to social media on Monday that he was "unaware" of his character's background when he accepted the part, but he was prompted to correct the situation after being informed.

Interesting phrasing there. Was he threatened?

Skrein's decision comes at a time when more attention than ever is being paid to Hollywood's casting decisions, particularly when it comes to adaptations.

Right? How can you "adapt" a known work and then change the race of a character? Imagine if you cast the Human Torch as black! Or a black guy as Kingpin! What if Will Smith played the lead in I Am Legend? What if Morgan Freeman played a guy named "Red" because it was a play on the original character's fair skin, freckles, and red hair? What if Jason Mamoa played Conan or Aquaman? What if Sam Jackson played Nick Fury? Or if Heimdall was portrayed by Idris Elba? What if The Rock played Hercules?

Point being, it's fine to cast non-whites in white roles, but not vice versa. Why?
