Bill Nye bets $20K x 3

Post by Malcolm »

Hah.
Not only did Nye accept Bastardi’s challenge to make a forecast, he also offered the same pair of bets he offered Marc Morano another climate change denier, earlier this month. Nye now has a total of $60,000 riding on the facts that 2016 will be in the top 10 hottest years on record and that this current decade will be the warmest ever recorded.
Morano declined to rise to the challenge, but Nye seems to be egging Bastardi to take them.

“So come on, champ,” Nye says to the bodybuilder, who is one of his most nagging critics. “Show us how tough you are.”

Bill Gates bets me a billion dollars that we're coming out of an ice age. I can't cover the bet, so decline. Bill Gates wins and proves we are coming out of an ice age.

That's just good science.

Makes sense.

Bit of a sucker's bet. Every year satellite raw data is released showing no increase in temps before the guys at NASA develop some new algorithm that this year's data needs to be run through in order to get the really real numbers.

I'm just reporting that this isn't something without merit among some scientists.

Unlike the porn argument, I'm not demanding you go to jail for disagreeing because the scinece is settled. Actually, you pretty much seem to be following the same course with the porn as the climate science folks. "We will not entertain any idea that runs counter to my world view!"

Don't worry Malcolm, no one wants to get their Christian cooties on you. We all recognize that your soul likely most resembles those crusty black pieces you find in the bottom of a bachelor's oven.

I don't think Bill's sending anyone to jail if they lose the bet, unlike the Christians who'd love to jail anyone that gets an abortion.

In Pope John Paul II's Letter to Families he simply stated the Roman Catholic Church's view on abortion and euthanasia: "Laws which legitimize the direct killing of innocent human beings through abortion or euthanasia are in complete opposition to the inviolable right to life proper to every individual; they thus deny the equality of everyone before the law."
Catholics, yes, otherwise they're disobeying their boss with a direct hard line to and hard on for god.
Much of the pro-life movement in the United States and around the world finds support in the Roman Catholic Church, the Christian right, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, the Church of England, the Anglican Church in North America, the Eastern Orthodox Church, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS).
...
Along with most other denominations.
Other Mainline Protestant denominations in the United States, such as the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and the United Church of Christ, are pro-choice.
A few of the more laidback folks don't care. I get the feeling there are way fewer of the latter than the former, simply due to one huge swath of the demographic (Catholic) being 100% in one corner.

Hey, no fair lumping Christians all into one group and assigning blame for the views and actions of some to the group as a whole.

What do you think they are, Muslims?

Dammit, you beat me to it. I'm constantly criticized and "corrected" by suggesting every member of the muslim religion is, according to the letter of their religious edicts, complicit in terrorism, and there he goes making blanket statements about christians.

I gave some leeway to the non-crazies. It's hard to find those in religion, though, because buying into crazy is the ground floor of the vast majority of them.
