Synopsis:
Cops and drug dealers are attempting to kill each other in a slummy high-rise when the zombie apocalypse randomly breaks out.
Review:
The horde in question consists of Boyles, not Romeros, i.e. they are speedy. They also seem stronger than a living human of their size ought to be. Transmission is by bite and takes anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple hours, depending what the plot calls for.
Everyone in the entire film is a prick, so you don't care when anyone's killed off. They proceed without much of a plan, though. For instance, they start on the roof and need a plan to get down what looks like 20 stories to the 4th floor, where the elevator starts to work. The plan?
"Avoid the trails of blood." Fuck you, lamest drug dealer in the world. It's your hideout. You don't have a secret back exit or something? Fortunately, a crazy 'Nam vet lives in the same building and he's got what appears to be a .50 calibre AA gun that doesn't run out of ammo until the last five minutes. It's never made clear if he knows the zombies are zombies or if he's having a severely intense flashback.
Their plan after exiting the building is worse. "Split up." The night sky is lit up by fires from downtown and the undead are streaming to the suburbs, where you're located. You've got no wheels, no wings, limited ammo, and there are a fuckload more zombies outside than inside. It's like L4D, except there's no chopper at the end.
There's never any reason given for why the dead rose from the grave at this specific moment. It just happens. Which is actually kind of refreshing.
Verdict:
Eh, C- if you're a genre fan, D if you ain't.

An indy zombie film out of France.
This combines elements of The Raid, which you should see, and 28 Days Later, which you should not see.
The movie starts off with some folks raiding a rundown apartment complex, ala The Raid. Shit goes bad, and then shit goes really bad. The zombies are fast and agile like in 28 Days Later. They also, oddly, do stuff with their victims. I didn't like this change. It served no purpose unless they just needed the set cleared. (That's more probable than you might imagine.)
This movie is equal parts good and bad. It's entertaining, but you'll be asking questions. Like why did this horde run to this building if it's so far outside Paris? (That's not a spoiler, just something that will annoy you.) You will laugh or be frustrated at the characters never, NEVER, figuring out a basic rule of zombies, yet learning another one and never sharing it. I saw laugh or be frustrated because the violence is hilariously over the top. Not in a comedic way, but more in a these people are fighting for their lives completely wrong type of way. (That'll make more sense if you see it.)
Ever make it through Dead Rising with the photographer Frank? Remember that end scene on the tank? One of the main characters has a really badly planned out (from the character's perspective) and violent tribute to that scene.
I loved the combo of the films, the gore, the violence, and the human drama. I hated how dumb they were and how pretty much everyone is unlikable.
Worth seeing if you like zombies and can handle the subtitles.
