China

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

China

Post by Leisher »

Is Hollywood no longer the center of the film universe?

For those of you unaware, China is the #2 film market on the planet and has become a savior for some films like Warcraft.

Obviously this is troubling for Americans because the film industry is huge and we want it here, but also imagine a world where "big on censorship" China is dictating what we see.

Movies already get altered so China won't ban them. I want to say it happened to Avengers 2.

You missed the point.

Avengers 2 is a movie made by Hollywood and then shown in China. More films are now being made in China and funded by China, so the censorship will happen during filming.

I don't predict a major paradigm shift of movies getting made in China. If so, they can still film the things the Chinese find objectionable in NC or something, and edit it in.

Remember how the Red Dawn remake had the chine invaders cgi'd into north koreans, though? That was awesome.

But they are...

Warcraft 2 will happen simply because of China. In the article it talks about Arnie going there to film some blockbuster. Not saying it'll happen overnight, but there's a shift going on. If you follow movies you'll know that more attention is being paid to ensure your film can be played in China, which immediately alters the movies we get.
If so, they can still film the things the Chinese find objectionable in NC or something, and edit it in.
Remember that China's government runs the show. The film studios there are government puppets (some would say like ours are for the Dems...), so editing would happen during writing and filming not later. Is China going to pay money to make a film for American audiences or Chinese audiences?

So China got a lid on its rampant piracy, then?

Why do they care about piracy? It's not THEIR movies.

I expect the larger their influence on the film industry becomes the more you'll see a crackdown on their piracy. They kept people from having kids, you think they can't control piracy if they wanted to?
