Albert and Otto The Adventure Begins

Post by Leisher »

One of the titles in the $.49 to $5 range I picked up during the Steam sale.

It claims there will be more episodes and this does not end clearly, so I believe that.

Limbo-like side scroller with puzzles. Puzzles are of the "you have no time so make a snap decision and if it's wrong you'll start at the last checkpoint" variety. Only once was this really, really frustrating when I played one area for over an hour before finally beating it. Total time to get through the area properly? About 3-5 minutes.

The problem isn't so much piss poor game design, but rather the fact that the action itself is a puzzle, so multiple attempts are needed (potentially) for each obstacle. Every failed solution meaning death causes the time it takes to solve the problem to stretch.

The real problem is the controls. Your aiming works best on a mouse, but your actions work best on a controller. So doing the moves obviously designed for a controller on a keyboard can be annoying, particularly in one area of the game when jumping around while also holding things (another button) and activating things (yet another button).

Overall, it was a decent distraction for a single evening. So if you liked Limbo or other similar side scrollers, get this one for $1.
