The Shallows

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

The Shallows

Putting this here because it's been doing well in limited release and has good buzz among critics and audiences.

This movie appeals to me in like a dozen ways, Blake Lively in a bikini is on that list.

It's hard to imagine stretching the premise into a whole movie without it getting boring, though.

3-D experience.
Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old Macheath, babe
And he keeps it, ah, out of sight
Ya know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread...

They could have at least put a picture of Lively's butt in that article. Really make sure they get the violence AND sex internet crowds.

It was meh.

Blake is hot as balls. The rest of the cast consists of about 7 people...and a seagull.

This is Open Water except in shallow water. They work hard to fill the feature length time, and some of that involves turning the shark into Michael Meyers.

It's a beautiful movie, and entertaining enough to watch once, but if you know anything about sharks or even seagulls, you'll be annoyed by some of the plot points.

That is because Jaws – and The Exorcist as well – is not a movie to be taken at face value; yes, there is a shark in it but the film overall is a character study with the shark serving as an incidental device enabling the three main characters to develop arcs and tell a compelling story.
A quote from this review.

I posting this more for me because I love this quote. I plan to use it in a lot of movie and TV debates.

The best shark movie since Jaws? Nah, Jaws 2 still gets that honour...

Relatively. It's masterful compared to Jaws 3D, which in turn is a million times better than Jaws 4: Cape Fear with a Shark.
