Witnesses said the family was on the beach, and the boy's sister was in a playpen about 20 to 30 yards from the water, according to Demings. The toddler was nearby, wading in the water.
There are "No Swimming" signs at the lagoon, and no one else was in the water at the time of the attack besides the child, Demings said.
These wouldn't be the same parents that visited the zoo a couple weeks ago, would they?

I'd give the parents a little slack if they were from Iceland or some shit. The signs on the beach said "No swimming, steep drop-off" Nothing about a water based predator lurking in the Lagoon.

But if you are from the US of A, and especially anywhere near Florida or the South - you know what lives in Lagoons.

And the pictures of the super-well manicured beach sure look inviting.

This is a reasonable sign: http://images.mysafetysign.com/img/lg/K ... k-9825.gif

That isn't what Disney had up, though.

Family was from Nebraska, and apparently never watched Steve Irwin.

e: I'm overthinking this, I'm not even a parent and I know that a two-year-old shouldn't be in the water by himself, period.

Well, the kid was wading, so it's not like a parent has to be in the water with them for that. I'm betting the water was below his knees. The parents were there watching, as the father immediately went into the water after the gator. Watch animal kingdom and you see that the snatch and grab a gator does on the shore or bank happens fast.

I agree as stated earlier that there should have been a sign alerting to possible alligators. And I will make clear that I haven't seen the actual area, but if it was made super beautiful and inviting as I'm sure Disney made it then they especially should have had signs up. I think Disney will pay handsomely for this.

Bah, bullshit. How many times have I heard the "a child can drown in less than an inch of water" line?

Pay handsomely? Eh, they could just claim it was the new Peter Pan ride that went a bit haywire. New animatronics and all that.

Therefore, if you aren't in the tub with your kid then you're a bad parent? That's retarded.

At the very least, I'd expect "around."

Again... the child wasn't unattended. The father saw the alligator snatch the child, therefore the father was there which means "around".

If the family does sue, I'd imagine in discovery they'll find emails with park employees talking about alligators in the lagoon. Which combined with the way the beach looked:

Would probably be enough for negligence to hold up in court. Disney will probably settle this one, fast, and then put up a shitload of signs, maybe even a fence.
