Kevin Hall, a scientist at a federal research center who admits to a weakness for reality TV, had the idea to follow the “Biggest Loser” contestants for six years after that victorious night.
...
Researchers knew that just about anyone who deliberately loses weight — even if they start at a normal weight or even underweight — will have a slower metabolism when the diet ends. So they were not surprised to see that “The Biggest Loser” contestants had slow metabolisms when the show ended.
What shocked the researchers was what happened next: As the years went by and the numbers on the scale climbed, the contestants’ metabolisms did not recover. They became even slower, and the pounds kept piling on. It was as if their bodies were intensifying their effort to pull the contestants back to their original weight.

Re: Biggest Loser
Yeah, it's hard. And I've noticed this as well. I have to eat like nothing to keep weight off. Or exercise 10 hours a week.
It's not me, it's someone else.

I was on ritalin for a while. It helped me lose 10 lbs pretty quickly.GORDON wrote:Makes one contemplate meth.

Re: Biggest Loser
I've measured several times now: I lose 1.25 +-.25 pounds when I swim laps for 45 minutes.
So if I can just swim 2 hours a day I'd be svelte.

Do it every day and your body will acclimatize to it. You will see diminishing returns or plateau.GORDON wrote:I've measured several times now: I lose 1.25 +-.25 pounds when I swim laps for 45 minutes.

Re: Biggest Loser
Accusations keep on coming:
1) supplying ephedra and other stims to contestants
2) lying about caloric intake
3) shitty living and training conditions
4) post show weight gain
5) post show depression
6) someone's weight got fucked up enough that their gall bladder had to come out
7) divorces (although that's not necessarily bad)
#6 happened to my cousin. He dropped a lot of pounds in 1.5 years. Turns out that was way too fucking fast. It's a marathon, not a goddamn sprint.
