The Martian
Heh, I didn't even scroll up to look and see you'd already posted it before. I just remembered the comic and posted it in response to your comment.
EDIT: But I consider your confusing me with XKCD to be one of the nicest things you've ever said about me.

Congratulations to The Martian for winning the Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical.
"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
MILD SPOILERS FOLLOW (will be meaningless to anyone who has not read the book)...
Every single detail except the names have been changed from the books, from the sols on which events occur to the size of the hab, rovers, and ships to the tools he has available to even the number of potatoes he starts with and how he manages the soil (and all that's just the first few minutes, it keeps going like that). Not bad, just all different. I noticed only because I just read the book again, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to tell. Just thought that was interesting.
It certainly has the spirit of the book done right, and the story is relatively intact (a couple of scenes are oddly out of order for some reason, but that's okay). I like it quite a bit.
The only real complaint I have is the airlock incident. It was almost but not entirely cut, and it was one of my favorite bits. Oh, well.
How in the world did it win for Comedy/Musical? Sure there's some funny bits and some disco, but how is it not a drama?

I think it was the Leather Goddesses of Phobos joke. If Lost in Translation is a comedy, then everything's a fucking comedy, including infomercials.
Diogenes of Sinope: "It is not that I am mad, it is only that my head is different from yours."
Arnold Judas Rimmer, BSC, SSC: "Better dead than smeg."

Wait a minute. Why is the MAV booster full of bathroom? That's not how space exploration vehicles work. Not at all.
EDIT: And all the free-fall bits are totally wrong. Still a good movie, but wow.

1. I think it's pretty retarded to call this a comedy. Having a character with levity didn't make this any less a drama. It's insulting, I think.
2. The bluray extras are really good, including a long documentary from 2042, 7 years after the mission, that retrospectively explained all the back room politics that happened.

Really enjoyed this movie.
Donald Glover. He was great in Community.
That bugged the shit out of me too.
Another thing that bugged me was the final part of the rescue. They plan everything else out, but worry about launching him and picking him up AFTER they slingshot the Hermes around Earth?

I thought the ditzy black dreadlock astromechanics guy was stupid, though.

His brilliant solution was....... not something you'd expect all the smartest people at NASA to miss after 5 minutes of brainstorming.
