The Logan Square Gunman
Uber immediately responds by banning its drivers and passengers from carrying guns.
So if you're keeping score at home, Uber drivers aren't armed. Feel free to rob, rape, and murder them.

They've got no chance in hell of enforcing that. Fucking please.Leisher wrote:Uber immediately responds by banning its drivers and passengers from carrying guns.

Shit. I'm not actually sure how I feel on this. I love Uber and love talking to a rando Uber drivers a few times a week.
My feeling on if they should have guns in their car... I'll mediate on it and get back.
As far as their own safety - They drive totally unmarked cars, the only person who knows who the Uber driver is is the one who requested it.

There are logs somewhere, which means someone at Uber central probably knows.

When you use Uber the driver gets your info too. You have each others names and normally greet each other by first name basis. They have your number and call you ahead when they aren't quite sure which side of the street you are on.
They have built in GPS and with the Uber device in their car and can probably flag their car as stolen through the companies support center in a heart beat. I have yet to see one without a nav system - maybe a requirement?
I guess there is a risk that a bad man could steal someones phone and use their Uber account to steal cars. It's a jump but I admit it's a possible problem. Let me know when that happens for the first time ever?

Uber drivers never get inspected, this feels like a CYA move from Uber, now they can not be held responsible if the driver fucks up with his concealed carry weapon. I wouldn't stop carrying if I were a driver. You'll just get fired if you have to use it... which is better than being dead because you needed it and didn't have it.

It's easy to get one-time use cells. If I were to be evil, I'd get one, jack the car, and grab the driver's cell to make it look like a normal ride that went fine, then I'd switch the driver's status to off-duty or whatever. Soon as the driver gets near a phone, though, that car'll be reported stolen and chances are it won't take much for a positive ID if you ever get caught. If you wanted a head start, you'd kill the driver, tie him up, or incapacitate him. If you wanted to be clever, you might try a disguise.

You gotta steal a credit card too then. The checklist is getting longer. How can I not freak my next driver out with this list - I'm going to get some weird notes in my account.
You have to go through a round of SMS identification and linking your account/phone/actual credit/debit card if I remember right.

April -> June isn't exactly immediately, but close.
It's not me, it's someone else.
