If you go to uni.
"Unfortunately," the researchers wrote, "the appreciable declines in cigarette smoking have been accompanied by some increases in the use of other forms of tobacco or nicotine."

He's probably talking about e-ciggies, which I still maintain can't be worse or even as bad for you as a real ciggie.

They claim they're as bad or worse, which is interesting considering they haven't been out long enough to really study.

I know of a guy who has an "ecig-like" device for marijuana.

If you take all the additives out of a typical ciggie, you are left with tobacco and its active ingredient, nicotine. Not to say that's totally harmless, but merely looking at the list of chems you can eliminate is impressive.

I know of a guy who has an "ecig-like" device for marijuana.

Those have been around forever in the world of bud, but the variation in quality is so fucking big, it's a pain in the ass to find one that just fucking works and isn't designed to be uncleanable.

There are ones which:

1) are like e-ciggies
2) aren't "e", but they aren't for smoking either. The product is heated up enough to get the THC, but not enough to combust the other organic materials, unless you fuck up. Still need a lighter, though.
3) are non-portable and non-pen, almost an electronic hoohak

Seeing as how TPR's gone both ways with these, I'll toss out the question if he noticed a different in the taste/feeling/whatever of his drags. I will say that Katt Williams has an entire bit about how smoking weed is difference than using a vaporizer. Every time a smoker I know has taken their first vape hit, they always say how different it is.

E-cigs are worlds better than regular cigarettes. There's no studies needed to make that clear. There's a lot of study work that needs to be done of course, but so far it appears that nicotine is roughly as bad for you as caffeine. All the bad shit from smoking is from the actual burning of leaves and various added chemicals. Once you take that away it's probably damn near harmless.

The only reason that hasn't been demonstrated yet is that all the older studies around nicotine are all based on the use of actual tobacco. There've been some studies of e-cig users done in recent years but that was about comparing their health to the health of non-smokers, and since currently most e-cig users were previously smokers that's not a fair comparison. Once enough time has passed that there is a pool of e-cig users that never smoked, then a worthwhile study along those lines can be done.

There's a fantastic test you can do if you're a smoker to see the difference. Smoke a cig/joint and exhale through a fine screen of some sort. Idea is that you can trap some of the particles you're exhaling. If you do this with white material, you'll start noticing discolouration before too long. If you repeat the procedure with an e-cig/vape, the effect should be next to nothing. Also a way to check if you're vaping too hot.

Depends entirely on the particular e-cig hardware. Most are completely different. Some are almost identical. I will note that when I don't vape for awhile and hit it again it always makes me cough; it's different enough in some key undefinable ways that being a heavy smoker doesn't desensitize my system to the hit of an e-cig such that there's no coughing on that first hit.

About the only thing I can say that has some clarity on the difference is that e-cigs feel much "cleaner" in the lungs. It has a sharper and crisper lung feel than dirty old regular cigarettes.

I theorize it's because you can inhale much more deeply without organic combustibles to choke on. Most people barely use the upper part of their lungs. Knew a dude that was a stoner and ciggie smoker. First vape session he had knocked him back a couple times. He was very surprised. Guess he wasn't used to drawing in that much air. He was trying to recreate the "feel" of smoking. Tried to inhale like it was on fire, that process generally stops because your lungs tell you it's enough. Without that barrier in place, he kept going.

About the only thing I can say that has some clarity on the difference is that e-cigs feel much "cleaner" in the lungs. It has a sharper and crisper lung feel than dirty old regular cigarettes.

I'll agree in parallel from the illegal realm, though the non-portable vapes tend to have far better and more consistent behaviour.

I'm betting high school usage has probably followed the same pattern as college, even though they're just mentioning a decline in ciggie sales.

Beyond funny.
There's new reason for parents to be concerned about e-cigarettes: nearly one in five kids who uses e-cigarettes may be using the devices to get high, a study finds.

Let's get this straight ... there's a need to be concerned because they're swapping out nicotine for bud? Because they're going from something you can theoretically OD on (nicotine liquid is extremely concentrated) to something that no human being has ever consumed in a fatal amount? Because they're only getting active chemicals and not the byproducts?

Researchers still aren't certain exactly how kids are converting the e-cigarettes for marijuana use, Krishnan-Sarin said.
...
"There's so much more about this that's unknown than is known," she said.

Sorry, you obviously Indian dude, but you're hurting this study more than you know.
Senior author Suchitra Krishnan-Sarin, an associate professor of psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine...

Just ... goddamn. You're a research whore. This explains it. I'm sure that all the anti-drug activists know about this shit.
"This is the first I've heard of it, but I can't say I'm shocked," said Sean Clarkin, director of strategy and program management at the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids.

If you're the fucking idiots leading the charge against drug use, allow me to say I've never felt more secure. Remember about 15 years ago when the US drug czar couldn't define the term "bong?"

(nicotine liquid <s>is</s> can be extremely concentrated)

fixed.

The juice comes in all strengths as high as 18% to as low as 0%. It seems that around 6% is pretty typically the most common. That'd be hard to OD on from actually vaping it.

I'm not talking vaping it. I'm talking the dumb-asses that drink it or occasionally let their kids do that. Dude at work had a vape pen and he showed us all about it and its ammo.

Well, hell, drinking bleach will kill you just as quick. Will they outlaw that next?

Another study, another stupid researcher.
"This is a relatively novel way of using marijuana, and kids are using it at a fairly high rate," Morean said.

Novel?
of a new kind; different from anything seen or known before: a novel idea.

Looks like scientists are slower on the uptake than stoners because vaporizers have been around for over a decade.

Hey Cleveland folk, Phillip Morris thinks you should focus on regulating weed and the flavoured cig industry goes away.
