When we were first deciding who we were going to be online in UO in 1996, we made an agreement to never use "LOL" unironically.

There was even a filter for it on this forum, I think it would change it to, "I am an idiot."

We used "hehe" instead. We were almost 20 years ahead of the curve, which sounds about right.

I've played with spergy people in rust who actually say "LOL" out loud. It sounds like LAWWL, said in the dumbest way possible.

It's awful, they are awful, the internet too.

Interestingly, the article says that the only holdouts still using it are the old and out-of-touch.

I don't think I have ever even once used LOL as it was intended.
