Turns out this pussy lives and works about 20 minutes from my apartment. Lots of protesters at his office today. He showed up and told them off. Allow me to summarize:

"I don't often talk about hunting with my patients because it can be a divisive and emotionally charged topic," he said in the letter to patients. "I understand and respect that not everyone shares the same views on hunting."
What you did isn't hunting, Walt.
He had been accused of killing a bear outside his permitted zone and then hauling it back 40 miles (64 km) inside to register it with authorities.
Hey hunters in the forum, is it even remotely possible to get 40 miles outside your boundaries and not know it with modern GPS tech? I've heard of people shooting deer and having them stumble a few hundred feet outside the area. Every single one of them knew they were outside because there are big-ass signs with equally big-ass letters to tell you.
Dude deserves to be extradited but there's no way that'll happen.

It's not me, it's someone else.

I don't want to be misunderstood. I don't have a problem with people being upset. A couple of things really bother me about this with the media.
First, the press is telling us we should be outraged about this lion when there's not much we can do about it since this is a law enforcement issue in another country. The scum bag in the article I linked, we can do something about that sort of thing. Or at least we can take intelligent measures. The fact that our border patrol ordered the cops to let him go before his crime spree is a much better and useful reason to be outraged.
The other thing that bothers me is that all trophy hunters are being painted with this same brush. Whether you agree with trophy hunting or not (I don't have any desire to do it, but if someone else wants to, that's fine), these hunters pay a lot of money that in turn pays for the anti-poaching efforts of the local authorities. Kenya manages their resources very well. So the reality is that there are a lot more lions because of trophy hunters rather than in spite of them. This doesn't get explained very well. Usually not at all.

I get what you're saying, and for the most part I agree. I see a lot of outrage against the trophy hunting, but personally I see more about this guy being a scumbag, luring it off the reservation, hiding the collar, covering his tracks, then lying about how he didn't know.
Now. I don't know how I feel about peeps posting his personal info, and the mobs going after him. I have stated before that I don't agree with that practice, and it still applies even now when I feel the guy has it coming. Going after his livelihood = not cool.
However, we have all decided here that there is a difference between a mob coming after you for speaking your mind, and the mob going after you for breaking the law by not baking that cake. This guy left the country for the purpose of committing a crime. Peeps get picked up coming back from Amsterdam for that all the time, so why isn't he already arrested?

The declining numbers of a fuckload of animal species indicate most "hunters" can most accurately be classified as poachers, otherwise there'd be a lot more ivory-bearing critters around. Dudes who play by the rules out there seem to be the exception and all the fees and shit they're paying aren't denting the problem.
I don't know how I feel about peeps posting his personal info...
That's a bit out of line.

No, fuck that noise. If you own a biz, your profit probably depends on people trusting you and wanting to give you cash for goods or services. If they think you're a prick, they won't. He brought the negative PR on himself with his bullshit safari. He had over a day and a half to notice the animal was collared and needed a vet. I have no sympathy for this ball-less pile of shit that walks and talks.

Zimbabwe might be asking that we hold off until they can prove he knowingly committed a crime rather than just hired the wrong hunting guide outfit. Like I said, these countries make a lot of money off rich tourists wanting to hunt these animals. Zimbabwe probably wants to make sure they don't end up with a reputation as a country that you just want to avoid for that due to "overzealous regulations and prosecutions" that throw rich Americans in third world jails.GORDON wrote:This guy left the country for the purpose of committing a crime. Maybe Walter should've done his goddamned homework. If I spend $50K on a car, I research the fuck out of it.

I am mostly in agreement. Trophy hunting = fine when following the rules but so many aren't; this guy is a scumbag; public doxing is always uncool; if you are a business owner then PR is part of the job and if you piss off a mob then expect to go out of business and that's as it should be.
That's because our government cares much more about drugs than lions.

According to the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, a local charity, the hunt was illegal. Neither Bronkhorst nor the landowner, Honest Ndlovu, on whose property Cecil was believed to be shot had the appropriate permit for a lion. The two Zimbabweans were arrested by Zimbabwe police and accused of assisting Palmer in the killing. The two appeared in court at Victoria Falls and were charged with poaching offences for not having the required hunting permit. Both men were granted bail at US$1,000 each and have been ordered to appear back in court on 5 August. Palmer returned to the United States, then issued a statement that he "relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt" and "deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion".
If the local charity can quickly determine that your "hunt" is bullshit, then you, as a "big game hunter," didn't perform due diligence and should be held accountable for your reckless idiocy. Here's a tip, if a dude has to include "Honest" in his name, he's not. The activity that you love deeply is called poaching and your definition of "legal" is synonymous with "when I don't get caught."
Cecil became famous in Zimbabwe, and was identifiable by his black-fringed mane and a tracking collar.
Your guides suck.

The only difference between Dr. Walter Palmer, and those who consciously choose to eat meat: NONE.

Investigation into possible breach of US law.
The source said the service is investigating the killing under the Lacey Act, a U.S. law that bars trading in wildlife that has been illegally killed, transported or sold.
The investigation is focused on whether Walter Palmer, a dentist in suburban Minneapolis, was involved in a conspiracy to violate the act, the source said.

As for Kat Von D, I will cut her a little slack. She's basically calling meat-eaters hypocrites, which is pretty much true, even though she also got called out for her leather. Oopsies, that counts, too. But again, she is mistaking the use of an animal that exists solely to become food, and an animal that was on protected land. No moral ambiguity, there.,,, but honestly, I don't expect her to be a deep thinker.
