Looks like they spent more money on locations, and possibly stunts, but far less money on the cast.

“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” - Dr Thomas Sowell
In some ways much better than the first movie. In some ways just as stupid.
The premise remains interesting, yet ridiculous. One night a year all crime is legal including murder. Residents either lock themselves up or go hunting. Amazingly lots of people still get caught out on the streets "by accident" or whatever. I find it humorous how many people simply aren't prepared for the annual orgy of violence in this fictional world.
This time around they really gear up the anti-rich, anti-government slant to the movie. You know, because rich people are evil. (Ignore the fact that the writer and director both probably made more from this film than most people make it a year...)
Remember how the original film was just FILLED with dumb shit that normal people wouldn't do? Lots of that here as well. You name it, it's here. There's unexplained elaborate traps, character motivation changes, people fighting for one thing while literally doing what they're fighting against, people running into gunfire despite their hiding space perfectly protecting them, and more "that needs more explaining" moments then I've ever seen in one film. Seriously, I needed a scroll at the bottom of the screen to explain the logic behind a lot of things that went on in the movie. There's just so much stupid and so many plot threads that get left dangling.
It's still worth a viewing for folks who enjoy horror and action. Just know that the writing is still complete shit.

Yeah, this movie was a thing.
I expected a Purge movie, and I got a Purge movie, so no surprises there. The brilliance of this universe is that they could make a million movies around this premise, just different things that happen here or there on that night.
This movie was showing some cracks in the system, though. Like, the plan to improve the economy and society... which was already happening 6 years after The Purge was introduced, was for some reason not happening fast enough, so now there's rolling government death trucks. That just seems like poor decision making by the New Founding Fathers because that knowledge is gonna get out.
But anyway, it was a Purge movie.
And part of me still thinks it would be a good way to bring Evolution back into play in America.

Idiots still have occasionally well-off relatives who can sue. Since our legal system could be successfully gamed by Ralph Wiggum, that counts.
