The Death of Superman Lives

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

A documentary I can't wait to watch.

Look at Nic Cage in that photo. Who the hell can look at that and think, "Yep, that's Superman!"?

Was just reading about this. I want to see it, too. A lot of the inside baseball stuff on different movies is sometimes more interesting than the movie. Read about Buckaroo Bonzai sometime. Interesting example of the relationship that existed between the director and the studio in the 80's. Much of it was the result of Heaven's Gate's very poor showing vs cost. Not that the studio control did a lot to ensure a film was marketable.

An Evening with Kevin Smith contains his account of the time he worked on the script and his interaction with Jon Peters. If half the shit Kevin says is true, Jon is the poster boy for producers completely fucking ideas in the ass.

Jon Peters to Kevin Smith during their first meeting:
I've got 3 rules. First, no flying. Second, no suit, he looks fucking gay in it. Finally in the third act, Superman has to fight a giant spider. They're the fiercest killers in the insect kingdom.

Jon Peters, later on during another meeting:
When you've got Brianiac going to the Fortress of Solitude .... there's no one there. Can he fight Superman's guards or something? Or can he fight some polar bears out front near the door? Polar bears are the fiercest killers in the animal kingdom.

The video did not deliver... poorly paced. They spent too long with comicon nerds, "What does superman mean to you?" and too long on those stupid credits.

"Not werf" = "Not worth" = "Not worth it" when someone makes a bad move in League Of Legends.

Usually the word used is "werf" if someone thinks their suicide run resulted in advancing the team.

Wow. That was a long way to go so you could use that reference here.

Not werf is, apparently, not werf.

As to the video, I thought it was pretty good for the start of a fan-made documentary. And given who it's by and who it's for I would expect it to be rather pedantic.

If even I notice the pacing sucks, then the pacing sucks. No excuse. No one will ever hire him to make their documentary for a paycheck so he might as well quit now and make room for someone who doesn't suck.

As for werf, he asked, I answered. I'll tell him to gfh next time.

What makes you think he's trying to turn this into a job? Maybe he's doing this because he loves the topic?

I mean, if you apply that standard to every hobby then why are you still playing League of Legends? You certainty haven't perfected it yet, so you aren't good enough to keep playing at all.

League doesn't cost me hundreds of dollars to produce, like that shitty credit sequence must have done.

Plus, he's going to have a huge chunk of time devoted to Kevin Smith telling the same long story that he already told in one of his An Evening With Kevin Smithses. The shit he's putting together poorly isn't even going to be original.

It sounds like the main problem is this documentary is not for you.

Me, I look forward to seeing it.

And some people like to be on the receiving end of S&M too, which is also not for me.

It seems like an interesting story, it is just too bad some no-talent assclown is going to screw it up.

When you start talking in LoL code like you're an angsty teen, maybe it's time to call it a day. I will remind you that you HATE those people.

I mean, if you apply that standard to every hobby then why are you still playing League of Legends? You certainty haven't perfected it yet, so you aren't good enough to keep playing at all.

Solid point about hobby versus job. Although, if it isn't his hobby Gordo probably has a point, but...if this is the guy's first movie and he has a limited budget, I'd cut him some slack. Ever see Peter Jackson's first film? Everyone starts somewhere.

League doesn't cost me hundreds of dollars to produce, like that shitty credit sequence must have done.

How much is your time worth?

Apparently not a hobby, but...
Jonathan D. "Jon" Schnepp (born May 16, 1967) is an American producer, director, voice actor, editor, writer, cartoonist, animator, and cinematographer whose company, Schneppzone, works on short films and television shows.

...it looks like this is his first foray into a longer form. That would explain pacing being his biggest hurdle.

But his real day job is directing and producing Metalocalypse and The Venture Bros.

I've never noticed any pacing issues in those things.
