Backstrom - aka Detective House

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

The previews of this have me interested.

First episode was good enough.

Aside from the police misconduct which seems a little tone deaf these days.... when was this first episode made? We have the cute cop breaking a suspect's finger and fabricating evidence that it was justified. Then the protagonist shoots himself in the arm accidentally which he hangs on the suspect, then shoots an unarmed suspect, who, granted, was about to go for a gun on the ground a few feet away, but then the protagonist tosses the gun at the guy's body so it looks like the shooting was a little more justified. These are the people we're supposed to like.

Anyway, I like everything Rainn Wilson has done so far, so I will leave the DVR set.

It's probably one of those things where they have to setup a character a certain way so that that they can then change him/her to make him/her more human and likable and bullshit.

Bet the first ep was shot maybe a few months before premiere. Here. Hmm, Swedish book series? Written by a former professor of criminology.
In 1977, while working at the Swedish National Police Board, Persson was used as the whistleblower by journalist Peter Bratt in the so-called Geijer Scandal when he confirmed a classified memo sent by then National Police Commissioner Carl Persson to Prime Minister Olof Palme about the alleged ties of the Minister of Justice, Lennart Geijer, to a prostitution ring in Stockholm. Following this affair he was fired from the National Police Board.

Good to know the blue wall of silence isn't restricted to the US.

More episodes have had lots of illegal police misconduct. Again, not sure how they are getting away with this in today's anti-cop atmosphere. I wonder how the viewer numbers are.

Anyway, four or five episodes in, it is getting a little better, but that may be just because I know the characters, by now. We are starting to get some character development and back stories... seasoning. They don't go full RAINE WILSON as often as I'd like, but this cop character certainly has a little Dwight Shrute in him.

I forgot this series existed. I'll watch it on Netflix if it gets renewed for a second season. Since it's a FOX show, the odds of that are slim.

Slim turned into cancelled.

That link is to a list of a bunch of shows cancelled by the networks today.

At this point I won't start watching a show until it starts at least it's third season.

Eh... more and more I'm thinking if you watch a show for its first two seasons and then it gets cancelled that you were probably saved from watching a show you enjoy turn into a show you won't claim you watch anymore. The 2 year make tends to be went the good idea starts to stale.

Just watched the last episode, I wonder if they knew they were cancelled because of the last 5 minutes of the show.

It finished strong, but, it was Fox, so it didn't really have a chance with mediocre numbers.

I just started watching this. 2 episodes in, pretty good.

Like Gordon mentioned, there's a fair amount of police misconduct from the guy. But most of it has been harmless/irrelevant, in terms of net effect.

Haven't seen the show so I can't comment on details, but as a general rule there is no such thing as harmless police misconduct. Even the little shit matters there, because it's the little violations that foster a disrespect for the law that leads to the big ones. Camel, tent, nose, etc.

I'm making an observation about the behavior and impact of a fictional character.

They look like they are using it as a way to setup that the character has flaws, and I bet he overcomes them in the future (or at least, bet that was the original arc intent before it was canceled).

This show was really good. I'm sorry it got canceled.

I read some critical reviews, and apparently it just didn't fit in people's boxes, as far as I can tell.

Enjoyable, not perfect, nice change of pace from most procedurals.
