Interesting, but looks like just another thing to clean.
I cook a lot so I know where to set all my knobs for whatever general temp I need, and if I need specific temps, like when I am brewing, I just throw a thermometer in it and babysit.
edit - gas stove, btw. I think they are superior.

After setting off my smoke detector once, I decided I do need to know the temp, at least within a few degrees, especially when I'm under 212F.

Real cooks don't need to know the exact temp. You just know your food.
True of vegetables and simple meat dishes. Not so much when it comes to more advanced cooking, like candy making. When working with melted sugar as little as 1/10th of a degree can make a huge difference.
