Star Trek Beyond

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

If he directs, I might be interested.

Idris Elba the bad guy?

And potentially a Klingon.

Been watching the remastered ST:OS with the wife. Watching Nimoy's subtle expressions and reactions makes me realize even more what a poor job Quinto did (at least in the first movie, as that's all I've seen). Looking at the still images I thought he was perfect. Seeing him actually acting the part I wasn't so impressed.

Keep in mind that Quinto is playing a Spock that is supposed to be about 15 years younger and has so far spent very little time among humans - other than his mother - compared to Nimoy's Spock. He shouldn't have developed as many subtle mannerisms yet.

Quinto's lack of experience with subtle emotion makes him a good choice to portray this younger Spock's own lack of experience with subtle emotion.

I had the same impression, watching the remastered episodes. Nimoy knew the character and was a genius with him before anyone else, including Roddenberry, probably knew what he was supposed to be.

I think it's more of a lack of ability in acting. To be fair, Nimoy made that character his and ANYONE would have trouble living up to the nuance he developed while playing Spock. But yeah, you go back and watch the original series and it stands out that Quinto doesn't carry the character very well at all.

This
I remember busting out laughing at one part... Spock is pretending to be brainwashed, and does the ritual, "Hail L'Andrew... something something something" and raises his eyebrow as he walks past the guards.... it was comedic perfection. If you know Spock. So I guess it was nerd comedic perfection.

As I said, it was pretty nuanced. It really struck me in a scene the other night as we were watching. I forget what was said, but it was something in passing that surprised Spock. Flashed across his face using only his eyes was a surprised look followed immediately with a look of annoyance that he was momentarily surprised. Just neat to see.

There's an old "Star Trek remastered" thread, somewhere. I bet Leisher can find it.

That search literally took me 10s.

star and trek and original and series and TOS

Appears you found it, though.
