Anybody out there heard about it - good or bad? My son seem to love it and now wants a subscription. Just trying to do my parenting duties and make sure it's safe.

I've heard of it, but don't know a thing about it.

I know that's helpful.

The big two that I'm aware of that you don't let kids withing 50 feet of... the Grand Theft Auto games, and Second Life. Everything else is *probably* safe, for a stable kid. The two I mentioned are pretty much porn of one type or another.

Good advise. Should trust him since I was just crazy enough today to get him a cell and add him to my plan as a surprise for Christmas.

Guessing these are the games you play. . .

Well, all games do have "ratigns" on them, and they are even a little conservative, in my opinion. I think generally you can trust ratings.

Runescape... is it an online game? Keep in mind there's usually nothing stopping real people from swearing, and stuff.

It is an online game. They use **** for any swearing. He really gets into it and other kids from school get on it. I know they can send messages back and forth and I also just learned that my son has multiple free accounts set up. He said that he can earn money on one account then sell it to another.

My son played it for a while. Had all these macroing utilities and stuff. It's a harmless game and the subscription is low I think. We never subscribed because even $5/month for a flash game seemed high. The subscription gets you access to more areas that are set up better, etc. As in, the blacksmith shop is close to the mines, where in the free area, there's a longer road to travel. I never played it cause it's not my speed. But my son and his friends played it quite a bit.

For those that don't know:

It's a browser based MMO with GTA:1 type graphics and view. Very deep in the skills and stuff, much like UO was (only deeper in some areas). No home ownership, no PKing, etc. If you enjoy grinding with crappy graphics, this game is for you!! It's great for kids though cause it's free, administrated well and pretty tame. At least that's what I saw of it. Fairly large player base too. My guess is the average age is 10 years old.

However, there is the ever present scammers. Tell him not to trust anyone, etc. Lots of people promise payment for characters/goods and when given them, never pay up. Standard issue stuff in MMOs. However, with an average age of 10 years old, there are lots of easy targets.

A co-worker friend of mine has a son who plays that as well (~10 yo) and he says it is safe.
It's not me, it's someone else.

My son plays. There was some problem with language a couple of months ago. Since then they've fixed it. Other than that I don't know.
Wadda mean? Other people can read this?!
