*Minor Spoilers*
Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss, and some other people star in this "reimagining" of the 1972 movie the Poseidon Adventure.
The best word to describe this film is "bland." The 1972 movie was more original, had deeper characters, more stars (arguably bigger name ones too), and a better storyline.
The writing is just horrible. None of the characters are fleshed out at all. Many are given details about their backstory, but no explanation is given.
-Richard Dreyfuss lost his lover, but no explanation is given as to why or who the people are he's talking to or why they care.
-He also wants to committ suicide, but no explanation is given as to why he joins the party that is trying to leave the ship.
-Nobody knows more about a ship than the captain and the engineers who built her...except for Josh Lucas, the fireman who happens to "know about ships."
-Kurt Russell was a fireman and mayor of New York, which apparently went badly. Why? I have no idea.
-He's also VERY overprotective of his daughter yet brought her on a cruise with her boyfriend and allows them to run off alone a lot.
-He and Josh Lucas hate each other. Why? No idea.
Bah. I knew more about a girl who dies than I do about the main characters.
This group's journey through the ship is ridiculous too as they seem to know everything there is to know about ships.
The stunts seem forced and pointless. All the deaths you can see coming from miles away.
Skip this and rent the original.
