10 Best Sci-Fi Films that Never Existed
The problem with The Hitchhiker's Guide was pretty much just as he described it. It wasn't bad, but the narration was what made the books funny.
It was just too difficult to pull off (and still be funny) without departing almost completely from the books.

It was funny but not that funny.(And I got it because I have read the books) I thought they did as good of a movie as they could. The narration of the movie was funny, you had to sit back and watch the credits also.It was just too difficult to pull off (and still be funny) without departing almost completely from the books.
Hopefully Douglas is pleased.
In marriage there is always one person right. And the other one is the husband.
It is a good list, but there could be more additions.
- "AvP" using the first script based on the comic.
- "Evil Dead 3" with Ash in a future world controlled by deadites. I've seen a script on the web somewhere.
- "Starship Troopers" that sticks to the book.
- "Star Trek" a version that has an actual budget, is true to the characters, and gives us a new series.

Ok list. I don't argee with the whole aliens thing. The cool thing about aliens was the whole being isolated and these killers coming after the crew. If the aliens come to earth it goes from a scary thriller to just an action flick. It could still be a cool move but that doesn't seem like alien.
The Star Wars thing has some OK points but still seems like just bitching. As for it being the wrong time period I don't really agree either. I don't think you need han, leia, luke to make the film. They are the least cool things about the OT. I still love them but I don't really need to see them anymore.

I remember the idea of Aliens coming to earth came up first before the sequel Aliens. They were talking about making different aliens based on what animal they layed the eggs inside of... which the eggs were laid..
Anyhow, the idea was that the aliens were bipedal because the came out of a human. One coming out of a horse would be a quadraped. That sort of thing.
Would have been interesting to see the array of alien types they might come up with.

The earth idea was before the comic.
Maybe taking the Alien to Earth did (I mean, where were they taking it in the original film? Earth!), but not AvP on Earth.
The two franchises didn't cross in the films until Predator 2 which hit in 1990.
The comic series hit in 1989, which means it was in development years prior.
From Wikipedia:
According to the notes which accompany the first Aliens vs. Predator graphic novel, the original idea of combining Aliens with Predators was the result of a brain-storming session between the comic's authors (Chris Warner is specifically credited).
And let's not forget that Chris Claremont brought the Alien to Earth in the 80s as well.
