Ray

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

The story of Ray Charles Robinson.

This was an interesting take of the life of Ray Charles. I can only speculate that the aging star wanted to tell the truth about his life.

And tell the truth it does. Ray shows us his tragic childhood, touching more upon a specific event that occured to his brother rather than his own eventual blindness. It moves on to show us the shady people that he surrounded himself with throughout his life and how those people tried to take advantage of him. It also shows Ray's drug use and selfishness that cost him many relationships and friends.

Still, through tragedy came his brilliant work. He is shown to take the worst moments and turn them into something good. Perhaps the true masters do need to suffer to create greatness?

My problem with the story is that you're left wanting more. Not in the good way, but because the film doesn't fill you on many details including what became of many important figures in Ray's life.

Jamie Fox, however, is worth the price of admission alone. It cannot be disputed that this was a performance of a lifetime for Fox. He is phenominal as Ray and seems to go beyond a mere impression.

This is a must see for fans of Ray and fans of acting. However, don't come thinking its a celebration of a man's life. Rather it may be a cautionary tale for those who wish to follow in his footsteps.

6 out of 10.

I still can't get past the fact that it's Jamie fuckin' Foxx.
