More "Big Daddy" then "Billy Madison".
Adam Sandler stars as a theme park vet on Oahu who spends his free time "living the dream" (lying to and screwing female tourists). Adam's character is close to his Big Daddy role except not as immature.
His best friend is an islander that has several perfect kids and a fat, ugly wife played by Rob Sneider. Rob is basically in the film for humor and he plays his role as an average, dumb schmoe, except way over-the-top. It works for him.
Drew Barrymore plays a local who has a chance meeting with Sandler and they immediately fall in love. I honestly think this is some of Drew's best acting. That's not a rip. She does a very good job.
There are some surprise cameos that are worth a chuckle.
After their chance meeting, Sandler comes to realizes that Drew is suffering from amnesia and he does his best to overcome that obstacle so they can continue their love affair.
Yeah, the premise is cheesy and the movie slants towards "chick flick", however this is definately a movie both people in any relationship can enjoy.
There is a bit of science in the film in the form of Drew's condition, and not being a doctor, I have no clue if things that occur in the film are correctly written, but the film is entertaining enough so that it shouldn't bug you.
The only real problem I had was with the pacing of the film. It was quite obvious that some edits were made in the first half of the film. I'm not talking about editing mistakes, but rather decisions to remove scenes that might explain a character's motives or something along those lines. Not a big problem, but it might affect your immersion level initially.
Its cheesy, but fun, and a good romantic comedy for couples.
7 out of 10. (That could probably move to 6 or 8 depending on mood.)

I saw a couple of bits that I thought I had seen before, but I don't remember recognizing anything from Tommy Boy.

In that brain injury hospital, Dan Akroyd (who was also in Tommy Boy...) said "all of our funding comes from Sandusky, Ohio from the T.B. Callahan fund" or some such thing. That'd be Tommy Callahan. Good catch. I like it when movies nod to other ones this way.
