DTMan Star Wars: Battlefront Server
edit 1/4/2006: Due to lack of interest, the server is down for now. It can be put online on request.
Note: NOT Battlefront 2. Maybe someday when the price drops.
We currently have a 24/7 running game.
Server is for SW:B version 1.2. DO NOT patch to the beta 1.3. You wont be able to join the game.
In the internet game server list:
Server: DTMan
Password: awesome.
All standard maps activated, including some user maps available here, random map rotation.
(PS - You MUST load these user maps, otherwise the DTMan server will kick you when they come up in the rotation.)
If we end up with problem players, the password will be changed and just the DTMan regulars (and some of the irregulars) will get to play.
The game is always on, and there are plenty of AI players on each side, so even if you are the only human player when you join you'll still have a game. And you'll never know when competition is going to join in.

"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
A couple of thoughts:
-The "woods" maps suck. I get my lowest kill numbers there as I can't see anyone.
-How do I select a certain faction each time?
-What the hell were you laughing at when I was in that AT-ST?
-Did you see me tearing up your troops with the AT-AT? I was fighting you for a while on that map through that one opening and then you got that speeder or whatever. Thus, I went the other way and saw the AT-AT and thought "I've got to have that."
-What level is the AI set at? I played a solo level earlier to learn the controls and I had them set to medium, but the ones we played with tonight seemed a LOT tougher. Specifically, they have dead on aim and more annoyingly know where you are all the time, even if you're out of their line of vision. I came up behind some trooper on one map and he instantly turned and fired on me. This is while I was not only 50 or so yards behind him, on a balcony above him, half behind a column, and hadn't fired on him or anyone yet.
-I was having no lag issues at all or at least, I didn't notice any. Thinking about it, some things may have occured that might be lag related.
Oh, and I cannot fly an X-Wing to save my life.

The harder AI might cheat, but, after a handful of rounds, you'll find the medium AI lacking. You'll soon be able to hand with the harder AI.
I don't mind the tree maps. But, I've played them a bunch and know them.
The bad guys always win the Hoth map, unless you have some good snow speeder pilots to take out the AT-ATs. The AI doesn't cut it.
I can't fly either. I can almost save my life, but not much beyond that. My son can tear them up. He will camp the spawns with the ships. So then I tear into his spawn with the anti-air guns till he quits camping the spawns.
Things that annoy me. People will spawn rush and spam/drop mines. Thus, as you spawn, you blow up. They bum-rush your base by jumping to avoid being shot. Then just throw the mines everywhere till they die. Wrinse, repeat. I that. Almost as much as when one team grabs all the heavy machines from both sides (tanks, etc.) and then tears everything up. But, at least that somewhat ok because we should have let them have ours.
But that's about it.
Lastly, there is a 'remote admin' utility out there. Don't remember where I saw it, but it's out there. I want that so I can boot morons off. Especially if we have friendly fire on.

1. Tree maps: I agree with Leisher's points. But, why don't we try them a little longer... if they fail to grow on us (pun) and we continue hating them, we'll drop them from the rotation. Cool?
2. The server is set to allow you to pick your side... just click on the red or green (I think?) icons at the top of the class selection screen to see the other side.
3. I was laughing at one point when you were camping the spawn with an AT-AT... it had just been a long time since I've seen such blatent spawn camping. I'm thinking about making new spawns invulerable for 2 or 3 seconds.
4. AI is currentlt set on 'Hard.' I agree, they were super-good. Right before Leisher got on I had them set on Medium... and it was like playing against 12 Lou Bruces. There needs to be a middle setting.
5. Any fucktard team killers would have to find ther pword to the server from this forum... but, look into the remote-admin thing, and I can do that if you need to be kicking players.

1. Agreed.
2. Ah. I enjoyed the co-op stuff a lot more than the "vs." stuff.
3. No, no, no. Keep in mind that I've never played this game before last night and have never even seen these maps before so I wouldn't know a spawn zone from a non-spawn zone. I do know that you can spawn in whatever zone you own. Considering that the enemy is trying to take over those zones, spawn kills (even camping as you have to wait for that bar to take over a territory) seem likely. In fact, I was waiting for the bar a few times last night and was killed by spawning AI at those sites. So, I'd have to say making them invincible would be unfair.
Anyway, there were four times last night I was in a walker. The first was with Ewoks and we were co-op. My AT-ST was destroyed almost immediately. The second was on some grassy plain map. I think might have been when you laughed at me. I was trying to secure a control point that was right there. The third was when I parked the AT-AT in that fortress and blew the shit out of everyone and everything. The fourth was on Hoth when I was in an AT-AT first and then a AT-ST. You kept spawning in front of the shield generators I was trying to blow up. Or is that not the point of that map?
4. Agreed.
I am planning on an all night session this Friday. Hopefully some of the other dtmaners will get this game and join us...

Just like most other games, hard AI will become easy. It will still kill you, but it won't own you. Medium is very very easy.
Even the hard AI is too dumb to stop spawning at a camped spawn point. So they will keep spawning there feeding the other team kills.
Just to make sure people know, you can't capture a point while in a vehicle. You have to get out.
The advantage to the tree maps is that it's a long skinny map. Kind of limits the flanking or attacking from two points. So, it's basically a brute force push through the capture points. But, I can take them or leave them.
The ewok map has the tree log things that will swing down and smash your AT-STs. That's how it just instantly blew up on you. In case you didn't know.. .
And Leisher makes the point I was trying to make. On the Hoth map, who ever drives the AT-ATs wins. Unless the other team has good speeder pilots (which the AI is not and we are probably worse). Until people learn to pilot, that will be an unbalanced map for us. But still fun to play.
I would dump the password when you are on to play, Gordon. That way, human players increase (maybe we can find the saturation point of your ISP), but Gordon is there to bump the morons.

I play on Xbox with my brother-in-law.
He likes At-Ats.
Is there a way to kill At-Ats without flying one of those damn Rebel fighters?
He also likes being one of those hunter droid things that roll around and have shields. I can usually dive areound and avoid his fire until his shields are gone. Then blammo.
Or I get a missle launcher (to kill his shields, and mine spam).

A new PC at Best Buy or Circuit City can be found for $300-$500.
Broadband access here starts at $29.99 a month and we pay some of the highest rates in the nation.
How does someone who works where you do not have a good PC and broadband?
Hippie.

I don't use my PC at home, other than to check email on weekends.
I live 7 miles from town, in the woods. No DSL, no cable. Satellite internet would work (for a $500 startup fee and $60 per month), but it has a pause before the data streams, so it's not suitable for fast-paced games. So there's no way I'm paying all that money for the service.
If I had DSL or a cable modem, I'd have upgraded my PC. But until I do more than check email on it, I'm not going to upgrade my P700.
