Scientists create life.

I found this story buried on the side of MSN's main page.

Shouldn't everyone be talking about this, or is it more important to discuss who's cheating in sports and marriage?
"Happy slaves are the worst enemies of freedom." - Marie Von Ebner
"It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies..." - Orwell

I'm sure that when it comes out, the actual scientific paper will be passed around a little bit at work here...

But off the first read of the article, I don't see how this is any different from the normal Mutagenesis, Isolation, Transfection process most labs do with benign E. Coli.

Looks like they just added there own genetic markers by inserting some chemically formulated amino acids. I'm not even sure how their "full alaphabet" would be read by a sequencer, when it really should only be reading GATC.

Ok, actually this is an interesting article and a huge cocktease. I want the research paper.

Edit : Ok, so either this was a very simple change, or they wrote up a custom genetic code by hand using chemically produced amino acids, if they did, no wonder it took them 10 years and 40 Million. Dang.
