That seems impossible. The charger only puts out 5 volts dc current, and if it had shorted out somehow to put full ac current down the line the phone would not have rung, it would have exploded. Or at least let out the magic smoke.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure how the electricity escapes from the phone, goes through your body, then finds the other pole to complete a circuit. Smoke or battery explosion would be a more likely result of a defect. Isn't the entire case of an iPhone covered in nonconducting plastic? Where's the conductive bit where the electricity jolts into you?

Right after she got out of the bath. In addition, her particular town looks to get exceedingly hot during this time of year. Still, electrocution from that phone still seems stretchy.

However, a current of more than 200mA (0.2A) can be lethal if it passes through the heart ... Someone who was wet after a bath might provide just such a pathway for a lethal current.

Um, no. Being wet from a bath would make your skin more conductive, which has exactly the opposite effect of reducing the already infinitesimal odds of dying from 200mA of current being able to go through your heart.

So far it's still just simply impossible for 5V to have done this. If there was a short that put full ac current through the wire, it would have been completely obvious because the charger cube would be a melted lump of plastic.

Right now my money is on someone with almost no understanding of how electricity works intentionally murdering her and trying to make it look like an accident.

If you're going to kill someone in China, there's easier ways to do it than electrocuting someone and covering it up. I'm really trying to Mythbuster this one up.

Let's say:

1) Her phone was charging in the bathroom. I'm going to assume it's attached to an outlet with a cable.
2) The bathroom had moist/humid spots and was probably on the warm side.
3) She grabs phone when it rings, gets zapped. I'll further assume the phone stays plugged in during the call.
4) Let's say the cable doing the charging has exposed wiring where the rubber coating has worn away.

Is there any way that the electricity goes from the wire, into her arm, through her heart, and then down out through her foot perhaps standing in a small puddle?

5V @ 200mA? Absolutely impossible. To get a current of 200mA through that much flesh, you'd need a voltage many orders of magnitude higher than 5V to do it.

Ever touched your tongue to a 9V battery? That was 9V @ 5A. Not mA, A: almost twice the voltage and five times the current. Are you still alive?

EDIT: And I would note for the comparison that touching the battery to your tongue doesn't cause the electricity to travel through your tongue but rather on the moist surface. The distance between the prongs is too wide for that level of energy to penetrate the flesh directly. If you completely dry your tongue and touch the terminals you will feel nothing.

Clearly he's never watched a video on the internet.

Amazes me how stupid people are, sometimes. Why would that concept be hard to grasp? Are you that mentally deficient?

Once I was going to the airport to pick someone up, and this was as the TSA was getting up and rolling and there were long lines. Some TV news guy came up and started interviewing me.

"So what do you think of these long lines?"

"Eh. Slows things down."

"So what do you think of the new security policies?"

"Gotta do what they gotta do." (This was when we still didn't know if we were getting attacked again... I would have a different answer, today)

He really didn't have anywhere to go with it, he wasn't getting the sensational opinion and hyperbole that kept people glued to the TV screen, so he just thanked me and moved on.

I wasn't about to be his dancing monkey.
