Kindle Fire - wft?
Reading through android app reviews on Amazon, I have a question.
If you want to play games and watch movies, why the fuck are you buying an eReader? I am so tired of:
1 star. It doesn't work on my Kindle Fire.
1 star. The video and audio are out of synch on my Kindle Fire.
No fucking shit. You bought a fucking eReader. Did you really think you could spend $200 and get the same performance as the $500 tablets? Are you really that fucking stupid? I wonder how many of them actually use it to read with.

Ya, it's a tablet. But it's a $200 tablet. You can go into CVS and get an Android tablet for $99. Does anyone that buys it think it's actually going to be any good? Well, I guess if you are buying your electronics from a drug store. . . you probably do.
I just don't like all the people that bash an app because it doesn't work on their eReader. Buy a real tablet and THEN rate an app.
What the hell did Amazon do to it that everything has to have a 'Kindle Fire' version? Dumb.

My wife loves her Kindle Fire.
It's much smaller than an iPad so it's easy to hold when she's reading a book, and when she goes to bed, she'll prop it up on my pillow and watch something before she falls asleep.
And as Cake has admitted, it IS a tablet, so where's the problem? Is it just a bias against Amazon?
If apps are being sold on a device, they should work. End of story. Your personal feelings regarding a device don't matter.
If I sold console games for the Wii, PS3, and X-Box would it be ok for the games not to work so well on the Wii just because some people feel it's the inferior brand?

But did the app makers choose to sell it on Fire, or is Amazon just throwing everything at it without testing it first regardless of what the app makers want?
Maybe it's Amazon that deserves the 1 star reviews, not the apps.

It's a tablet that has an Amazon modified version of the Android OS. So, many apps don't work on it. Then the users give the apps a 1 star rating. So instead of getting a good idea about whether the app is any good or not, you just know for sure that it doesn't run on the Kindle Fire. You have to sort through all the "It doesn't work on my kindle fire" one stars to get a true average rating.
I'm sure the Kindle Fire is a fine device. But, don't expect it to run Android apps. The people that buy them with the intent to use them like a full tablet are. . . . trying not to insult anyone here.
I bought my wife the Asus Transformer Prime. It's full Android ICS and does all the fun Android stuff. It's not some bastardized, proprietary version of ICS or whatever they are putting on the Kindle Fire. She watches Netflix, HBOGo, Crackle and home ripped DVDs with no stutter, plays all the apps that Amazon sells (or gives away daily), etc. Plus, the keyboard doc is awesome. She wanted the full capabilities of a tablet, so I bought her a full tablet.
I will admit that the Kindle Fire is probably a far better reader than her Prime is. But, she wanted all the other things the tablets can do as well. Being a reader was further down on the list. But, she can also borrow books, etc that any other readers can do with the reader apps that are available.
So, there's really two things going on. Amazon selling the KF as a full on tablet, and end users thinking they can drop $150 and get the same abilities as the $400 Ipad/Primes/etc. All the normal users have to suffer those two things when app shopping. Not to mention the poor developers that are getting HAMMERED when they never said it would work on the KF.
Many games are getting ported over to the KF though. So, when shopping, look for the KF version of apps.

So I used the Fire the past 2 weeks to read 2 books... which is about 2 more than I've read in the previous two years.
I like it. Small, easy to adjust the screen brightness, battery life is good, but not excellent. Used the Amazon Lending Library for the first book too, so it was free. Too bad only 1 / month.

It's not me, it's someone else.
I kinda love it for reading books, it's made books usable again. On my 3rd book in the past month. Currently reading Steve Job's biography. WOW he's a dick. But I love tech stories from the 70s and 80s.
Also, the web browser is actually pretty speedy.

It's not me, it's someone else.
This Christmas Amazon has been having special offers for people who own Fires.
Madden NFL 25 - $5 ($60 list)
Kindle Paperwhite - $25 ($119 list)
Lionel Train Set - $25 ($125 list)
Remote control car - $20 ($70 list)
I got all of them except the paperwhite. Sold the Madden and Train set on eBay for total profit of $120. Which I then used to buy a new Paperwhite from someone else who got the deal for $90.

This thread has some of the info
You can sign-up for text notifications, which usually come out 90 minutes before the deal. The deals have been showing up about 15 minutes before they go live on my Fire.
Oh, and you have to be quick. I got to the paperwhite one about 30 seconds late, and it was gone.
